Classroom Expectations and Procedures
- I want you to understand science concepts and love science - you will do this by BEING scientists.
- You will treat each other, and all adults in the classroom, with respect. It is very important to me that everyone feels comfortable and safe in my classroom.
- We will take care of this space - clean up, no writing on the desks, etc.
- Binder - make sure you have paper and something to write with (preferably pencils), keep it organized and the papers clipped in
- Absent Work- I will post absent work on my website. It is your responsibility to check the website and follow the directions. If you have questions or can’t check the website, contact me as soon as possible. Extra papers are in the back (don't use class time to discuss what you missed).
- Assignments and Homework- The assignments I give have meaning and help you develop a better understanding of the content or practice important science skills. I do not give a lot of homework because I think you should spend your after-school time doing things that are important to you (activities, family, friends, rest, etc.). As a result, I expect you to do assignments and submit them when they are due. If you need an extension, please contact me to discuss this.
- Class - Our time together is very precious. Don't waste it. We will work bell to bell. Don’t pack up until I end the class. I will make every effort to give you time to pack up at the end of the period.
- Valuable Work (formerly known as Do Now) - You are expected to come into class, write down your homework and do the "VW" (Valuable Work). You should keep them all in a safe place in your binder. You may even want to have a “VW Notebook”. Some of them will be valuable later (you can use them on a test, turn them in instead of another assignment, earn a prize, etc).
- Grades - Grades are not my primary focus. I care about your learning. Your grade should be a measurement of your learning and effort. Your grade will be calculated using a points system (earned points divided by possible points). Your grade will consist of mini-assessments, end-of-unit assessments (tests are one type of assessment), classwork, and homework.
