Westfield Art Exhibition

Summer 2021

Welcome to Westfield's Summer Art Exhibition. Once again, unfortunately we are unable to invite you into school to view the exhibition due to Covid-19. However the pupils have worked really hard and produced some great work through the year. You can view a snapshot of this across these pages. You can find each classes' work using the tabs at the top of the page. It has been another difficult school year, but pupils should feel really proud about their achievements.

If you've enjoyed looking at the work please leave a comment in the visitors book at the bottom of this page to let us know what you think.

Happy Viewing!

International Dot Day

At the start of school year the whole school made their mark by decorating a dot as part of International Dot Day. International Dot Day is a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration, which began when teacher Terry Shay introduced his classroom to Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot on September 15, 2009. The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe. On the day pupils were given the freedom to decorate their dot how they wished and they didn’t disappoint, producing a fantastic range of different dots which were all unique. Following this a lovely display was made out of the dots based on a piece of art called ‘Girl with a balloon’ by the artist Bansky.

Big Draw

On the 6th of October the whole school celebrated the Big Draw. The Big Draw is a national festival which promotes drawing in its broadest sense within schools and arts organisations. This year the Big Draw went green with the theme ‘A climate of change’. Normally the whole school comes together for the BIG draw to produce a large scale piece of collaborative work, but due to Covid we had to do things a bit differently this year.

To increase awareness and understanding of the current environmental issues every class made a 3D turtle out of a paper plate. Pupils worked really hard during the day and had great fun making their turtles, one class also made a large turtle out of wire and old plastic bags. Reduce, Reuse, Recyle!

INKtober

During the month of October pupils had the opportunity to take part in a drawing challenge called Inktober. The idea was to produce an ink drawing for everyday of October with the aim of getting into a good daily drawing habit, seeing some improvement and then sharing the work. An official Inktober prompt list was posted online which gave pupils a daily word to inspire their drawing. Pupils and staff thoroughly enjoyed the challenge with many taking part every day. A fantastic range of drawings were produced, these were posted onto the schools Instagram account daily.
