Special Education

In accordance with the philosophy of the Westerly Public School Department, aligned to the Rhode Island Board of Regents Regulation for children with disabilities, WHS offers a continuum of support services for students covered under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). A team decision for eligibility in one of the thirteen qualifying areas (as specified by RI State Regulations), would warrant an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). A fully constituted IEP team, will development an annual IEP, determining academic/transitional goals and the level of specialized instruction that is required to support each student's individual need.
