About "The Sound of Plaid"

As described by the license holder and others: Drawing inspiration from Forever Plaid, the four-man musical that has become a favorite among audiences everywhere, The Sound of Plaid: The Glee Club Version of Forever Plaid builds on the original story, characters, and songs to provide high schools a chance to take on the Plaids with a larger cast of warm, funny. Managing to be both old and new at the same time, The Sound of Plaid first began at NYU's CAP 21 in 2005 as a workshop. It then had its world premiere at Bradford High School in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in October 2008 and was invited to perform for a wider audience at the 2008-09 International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The premise of The Sound of Plaid is similar to Forever Plaid. In 1960s America, friends who met in the audio-visual club form a student choral group. When they discover that their high school music program was going to be cut from the curriculum, they decide to do a benefit to raise money. On the way to pick up their custom-made plaid tuxedos and skirts, their bus is struck by lightning. Although The Sound of Plaid members are taken from this planet, through the ‘Power of Harmony and the Expanding Holes in the Ozone Layer’, and other astro-technical stuff, they come back to perform the show that they never got to do in life.

Featuring some of the original songs from Forever Plaid, new pieces, and adaptations of classic hits of the 1960’s, The Sound of Plaid is a great new twist on a familiar favorite, and a perfect choice for any theatre looking to do a "big, little show." The audience will enjoy cuts from 1960’s songs, include: “Catch a Falling Star”, “Chain Gang”, “Crazy ‘Bout Ya Baby”, “Cry”, “Gotta Be This or That”, “Heart and Soul”, “Hey There”, “Lady of Spain”, “Love is a Many Splendored Thing”, “Mambo Italiano”, “Moments to Remember”, “No, Not Much”, “Perfidia”, “Rags To Riches”, “Shangri-La’, “She Loves You”, “Sh-Boom”, “Sixteen Tons”, “Three Coins in the Fountain”, “Undecided”.
