Lesson 7: Intro to Systems Diagram

Step 1: Open YOUR copy of the Exploration and Systems Diagram Worksheet.

Step 2: Watch the presentation in the resource section below.

Step 3: Complete "Part 2" on YOUR copy of the Exploration and Systems Diagram Worksheet: Do the Learn Basic System Diagram Terms and Concepts activity. You can complete this activity by watching a video or meeting with a science teacher.    

Step 4: Complete "Part 3" on the worksheet.  

Step 5: Attach your copy of the worksheet and submit to Slate.

Lesson 8: Make a Systems Diagram

Step 1: Make a copy of the Make a Systems Diagram, linked below.

Step 2: Follow the directions on the worksheet to build a systems diagram.  If you get stuck, talk to your science teacher.

Step 3: Use the worksheet to help you write your hypothesis, and include a revised version on your system diagram. 

Step 4: Submit in slate and bring your system diagram to your teacher for review or rating. 

Lesson 9: Narrow the Focus

Step 1: Gather your Systems Diagram. Take a look at the various parts and think about which part(s) you would like to focus on.

Step 2: Use the Research Guide: Rubber Band Cars. The questions in this document are good research questions that will help you research the topic(s) you are focusing on.

Step 3: After you have done some basic googling in Slate, write a prediction about your model.

Step 4: Submit your comment in Slate

Lesson 10: Plan and Discuss

Step 1: Make a copy of Planning and Developing a Model.

Step 2: Complete Part 1 of the template using the knowledge from your Googling spree from Lesson 9.

Step 3: Schedule a discussion with your science teacher to discuss Part 2 of the template. 

Step 4: Submit to Slate

Lesson 11: Research, Research, Research

Step 1: Make a copy of and complete the ELA Research Template.  Use the research question you created from Lesson 11.

Step 2: Discuss with BOTH an ELA teacher and a science teacher about the research you have collected.

Step 3: Submit the ELA Research Template to Slate

Lesson 12:  Start Your Model

Step 1:  Open your copy of Planning and Developing a Model Template.

Step 2:  Complete Part 3.

Step 3:  Submit to Slate.

Lesson 13:  Assess Your Model

Step 1: Open your copy of Planning and Developing a Model

Step 2: Complete Part 5 of the template.

Step 3: Submit to Slate

OPTIONAL Lesson 14:  Go for Level 12!

Step 1: If your model scored at a 10 and you would like to try and earn a 12, complete Part 6 on the template.

Step 2: Submit to Slate

Step 3: Revise as necessary
