MILESTONE 1, STEPPING STONE 1
MILESTONE 1, STEPPING STONE 1
In this Stepping Stone, we will explore what people know and do not know about finance, as well as answer some questions about personal finance in our own lives.
1. Watch the videos below and answer the following questions for yourself.
2. Use the Student Tools to reflect on your own financial literacy.
Are you saving for a car? Or paying back a loan for a car right now? How about paying for car insurance and gas?
Do you have a job? Do you buy your own clothes, groceries, or supplies for a pet?
Are you saving money for college? Or for a trip? Or to get your own place?
Do you have a bank account? A credit card? Are you building your credit?
In the near future, you will (hopefully) earn more money than you are now, but you will also be spending more money.
Living on your own means that you will have to pay bills.
Getting a job means that money will be taken out of your paycheck for insurance and taxes.
Getting your own apartment or house means that you will have to furnish it, pay rent every month, and buy groceries regularly.
What about when you get sick? You'll have to pay to see a doctor and to get prescriptions.
These are all things that you may be dealing with now, or you will be experiencing in the near future.
Reflect on your financial literacy. Could you answer the questions that the people were asked in those videos? How did you feel about the videos? Do you feel knowledgeable and prepared for all of the expenses and financial responsibilities that are mentioned above? What do you feel confident about? What are you most concerned about? What questions do you have?
