May The Force Be With You

West Ada Academies 20/21

may the force be with you?

The knowledge of forces is used in every aspect of our daily lives. We know that if we throw a ball, it will eventually fall back to Earth because of gravity. We understand that forces act on everything in our world and if we can predict the nature of forces then we can capitalize on that knowledge and improve our technology and standard of living. An example of that is using different kinds of tires in winter to compensate for the ice that causes lack of friction and grip on the road. Thus, by creating different tire treads for winter that break through the ice, we are able to overcome the lack of friction. In this studio, you will gain the knowledge of forces required to design and create a model bridge.

West Ada LEARNING CYCLE

To the left is our West Ada Academies Learning Cycle. This course is designed with content that fits into one of five categories: Engage, Explore, Practice, Apply, and Reflect. You will move through the stages of the learning cycle as you engage in the studio's driving questions, and then learn, practice, and apply the target skills listed above. When you get to the apply stage, you will make a presentation or use another method to show what you know. Finally, at each Milestone and again at the end of the studio, you will reflect on your project and what you have learned.

ICONS TO KNOW

Throughout the course you will see these two icons. They will tell you whether you are able to complete each assignment individually, or whether it must be done collaboratively (with a partner or group).
