Welcome to High School!
Students who have no previous high school credits are entered into Portfolio 1 for all subject areas and skills.
Welcome to THIS High School!
Students who have previous high school credit are converted to the portfolio system. For example, if a student has completed their first year of English, they would be placed into Portfolio 2 for English skills.
Another issue with traditional system is what happens to student work. It usually is glanced at and thrown in the trash. Portfolios are bodies of work collected across subject areas so students and parents can see growth over time.

Think of it like a video game. You reach a new level by doing challenges and once you reach a new level, it becomes more challenging. Students can see themselves growing in their skill level!
Studios are just learning opportunities students use to show they can do certain skills. Students can choose how they show those skills. This is where we see student engagement increase. Since the CBE system is all about showing growth in skill, a student can use what they are interested in pursuing.
A student should be able to see where they are going next and have the support to get there. The continua gives the student the ability to do this. Take a look into our competencies and how students use them.
Competencies are statements about what students can do.
Competencies are organized by subject area ("Science Competencies")
There are 8 Competencies that we use so far!
Each competency has a list of skills that join together under it
Each skill has specific descriptions (called descriptors) students show
We love to celebrate students! To do this, a competency slip is filled out and their score is recorded. The score is entered into PowerSchool for future transcripts.
