Parents should call the attendance line (440) 942-2149 for all absences and tardies by 8:30 am.
Arrival - Car drop-off takes place in the back of the building from 8:10 to 8:25. At 8:25 the doors are locked so staff can get to their first class. After 8:25, please drop off your child at the front main doors. Students are expected to be in their homerooms by 8:30.
Dismissal - We start dismissing at 2:50. Car pick-up is in the back of the building. Buses only are permitted in the front loop at dismissal.
Late Arrival/Early Dismissal - Parents do not have to sing in tardy students in grades 3 through 8. Persons taking students out early will need to come into the building via the front door with a valid driver's license to sign them out. If it is not the parent or guardian signing them out, the office would have to have received a written note from the parent or guardian before releasing the student whether the person is on the emergency form or not. Also, early releases should be called into the office, not the attendance line.
Dismissal Changes - The office needs to be notified of dismissal changes (switch from car to bus or vice versa) before 2:00 pm by calling the office at (440) 942-1525.
Due to House Bill 410, it is important for every student in Ohio to attend school every day. Missing too much school has long-term effects on students, such as lower achievement and graduation rates. It is extremely important to always call our attendance line to let us know when they will be late or out. Providing a doctor's note when applicable is helpful as well. When students hit certain benchmarks of hours of school missed, you will receive a letter notifying you of this. Certain benchmarks require meetings and/or intervention plans to take place. The highest of benchmarks could requirer further actions and local resources to be involved.
It is extremely important to us that we maintain positive learning environments that allow students to remain focused on their academics. Each student at SOI has a Chromebook and can do all of their learning activities with their Chromebook. Cell phones are not needed for academics unless a teacher were to allow their use in class as a supplemental learning tool.
Because of possible distractions being caused by the presence of cell phones, unless there is an emergency situation, students are not to have their cell phones visible in class, during transition times, or at lunch, recess, or advisory. If a student is observed with their phone by a staff member, the phone will be held by the staff member until the end of the day, at which time the students will be able to retrieve the phone to take home. If this occurs with a student three times, the phone will be held and it will be necessary for a parent to come and pick it up. The phone will not be released to the student.
Smart Watches may be worn, but if the student is observed using them as a phone, for entertainment, or as an informational device, the same above consequence will result.
All student Chromebooks must be in their cases. No exceptions. Chromebooks should come to school each day with a full charge.
Technology (cell phones & headphones) must be stored away in your locker or book bags at ALL TIMES.
Follow the class change procedures and arrive on time!
Keep your hands to yourself.
Clear water bottles containing only water may be used.
Show respect to all members of our school community.

All students in 7th grade must have the Tdap and Meningococcal (MCV4) immunizations before school begins August 18. You may drop off this documentation at our main office on weekdays from 9:00-3:00, email it to our school nurse, or fax it to our main office at (440) 347-0273. Students who do not provide documentation of this booster may be subject to exclusion from school. Parents and guardians must present proof that your child has had this immunization.
You may email Ms. Kuhlman, our school nurse, at Megan.Kuhlman@WESchools.org or call the school office at (440) 942-1525 with any questions.
Donate to the SOI SWAP SHOP! Bring in uniform items (in good-great shape) during the week of August 1st or 8th from 9 am-3 pm or on Meet the Teacher Night to swap items that your child can now wear.
Don't have a donation? Grab something your child will wear ANYHOW! Donate later. Great clothes that need a home are waiting. You can also email orders to Swapshp@wesohiopto.org throughout the school year.
