Students may choose from the violin, viola, cello, or bass
(bass is also called the string bass, upright bass, or the double bass)

Most of our strings students will need a smaller (fractional) sized instrument until they are full grown in their middle or high school years. This makes renting a good option for many students. However, if you have many children at home or are good with utilizing craiglist an instrument that is purchased can be passed onto another student. Please be warned, if you find an instrument for sale on-line for $99 , this instrument will not hold up longer than 3 months and will be frustrating to both teacher and student. A solid instrument should cost several hundred dollars. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is!
We have two music stores locally and a specialty strings shop in Issaquah. Additionally we have a limited stock of Wenatchee School District owned instruments that we can check-out to you for no fee. There is a spot on the strings registration form where you can request a WSD instrument.
Honestly, getting an instrument is the hardest part of the whole strings program so please reach out to your strings teacher for guidance. We are so happy to help!
To borrow a WSD instrument please let us know that you'll need one in your on-line registration form. Supply is limited but in the past we have always had enough to cover any need that comes up. School instruments will be checked out during the first few lessons of strings class. To bring an instrument home to practice students must return a completed school instrument loan agreement. Teachers will hand this form out in class but also find it below:
If you are renting from a music store go there first for instrument repairs.
If you own an instrument or are using a school district instrument then we highly recommend Aaron Davis for strings repairs. Mr. Davis used to teach elementary strings in the WSD and is now retired and doing instrument repairs, as needed. Songsmith String Instruments and Repair. His number is (509) 662-7275.
