Welcome to Wenatchee District's Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program!


Wenatchee School District provides educational services and accommodations for children and their families from pre kinder through 21 in variety of settings.

Wenatchee offers magnet program sites for students who use sign language interpreters and daily direct instruction from a teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing. These locations are located at Castle Rock Early Learning Center, John Newbery Elementary, Foothills Middle School and Wenatchee High School.

Students in this program follow the general education curriculum in their mainstream classroom by their classroom teacher and supported by a teacher of the deaf and interpreter. Magnet schools offer ASL language development and exposure from:

  • Deaf ASL engagement specialist

  • Deaf and Hard of Hearing role models

Input from child's family and academic team during the IEP meeting will determine the student's placement. Students are placed in an environment that best meets their needs, with hearing and d/hh peers, interpreters and assistive technology to best access language, instruction and social emotional support.

Wenatchee's Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program is staffed by:

  • A National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT), M.A. Certified , Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

  • Educational Sign Language Interpreters that have met state standards or are currently working towards state standards.

  • Speech Language Pathologist with experience with deaf and hard of hearing students.
