Value of week: Courage

Message from Mr Lyle

Welcome back to Term 4. As you can see above, this term is full of fun and exciting experiences for all of your children in different ways. It has been wonderful thinking about how we can be courageous in every day school life this week and there are plenty of opportunities to showcase different talents this term. Whether you are a performer, love reading books, or just love creating things, there is something for everyone.

Alongside this, we are continuing to improve areas within the school and will be looking for support with this. Take a look in the newsletter to see where you can help. Any help, within school, no matter the size will always be appreciated.

Please keep doing all you can with your children at home: reading, practising spellings or doing Doodle Maths. The time spent doing this is invaluable and we know how much children benefit from this. Even 10 minutes of reading a day can help your children no end.

As always, thank you for your continued support, and if you ever have any questions or would like to find out how you could help, please don't hesitate to speak to someone.

Have a lovely weekend. :)

Illness and Attendance at Welton

As you are all aware, attendance is at the top of our list for a reason. It is important that children are in school as much as possible: they have the right to an education and the responsibility to be in school, learning.

We will continue to be pushing this, this term and have created a little handy poster explaining how much school can be missed if your children, regularly, do not attend.

In recent weeks, many parents have been double checking using the image below on whether their child can be in school. Please continue to do this, or contact the school office for further guidance.

Thank you for your continued support with this.

Book Donation Plea

We are in the process of updating our library. If you have any books at home you are willing to get rid of, please bring them into the office. We would love to freshen up our library and increasing the breadth of books for our children to choose from.

Thank you.

PTFA Break time Cake Sale

On Friday 1st March, there will be a cake sale at break time with all funds raised for the school. We are hoping to run these once a term and will ask different classes to donate cakes either baked or bought in on Friday morning.

This term we are asking for donations from:

Year 1, 3 and 5.

Any donation would be greatly appreciated. All cakes will be sold at 50p and we ask that children bring in exact change where possible. Children will all have the opportunity to buy one cake at break time and these will be sold by the house captains.

Any not sold, will be on sale after school.

Thank you for your continued support.

World Book Day - Thursday 7th March

Don't forget, World Book Day is Thursday 7th March. On the day, we would love children to come dressed as an adjective (a describing word). We will also be doing a book swap in classes, so if children have an old book they no longer want, please bring it in and we will swap them with a peer.

Parents are welcome in at 3:00 to share stories as a family. All are welcome and the more people that come in, the better. Thank you for your support with this.

STEM Week

We are excited to share with you our plans for Welton Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Week 2024 which will take place w/c Monday 11th March. Throughout the week classes will be planning, experimenting and preparing for our very first Welton STEM Fayre which will be held on Friday 15th March throughout the day. We anticipate that this will be a fun and interactive event led by the children and hope that you might be able to join us? We will be sending out the timetable next week.

In addition to this, we invite families to take part in our Home School Challenge: Create the Ultimate Time Machine.

Have you ever wanted to travel through time or even just wanted to measure the time it takes to brush your teeth with a cool time invention? Now this is the time to create it. We would love to see what you can create that will help you be the ultimate time keeper!

There will be winners for KS1 and KS2 and prizes up for grabs, so get those creative juices flowing and show what fantastic designers, creators and scientists you are. .

You could draw your idea, create a presentation, or even make a model of your time machine out of Lego or junk. The opportunities are endless and we cannot wait to see what you create!

Alongside our STEM Fayre, we need your help to enable us to create a pop up Tech Through Time Museum. From Monday 11th, we invite you to send in any old tech that you would be happy to be on display eg. old mobiles, cameras, computers, games consoles etc. It would be helpful if you could write a few sentences on a piece of paper explaining what the piece of tech is and any memories you have of using it - alongside your name. This will not be played with by the children, simply on display for us all to enjoy.

After School with the Owls

This term, Owls have started in fine form. Children have been busy making and sewing their own monsters. It is so wonderful to see such a hive of activity and great multi-age play going on in our after school club. The children, who attend, are a real credit to our school.

As the weather gets nicer, and the children get outside more, we have a request.  If you have any elbow or knee pads that you would be willing to part ways with, we would love them. The PTFA have kindly donated some skateboards and to ensure that we are safe, would love to have these readily available for our pupils.

If you have any that you could donate, please hand into the office or drop them off to Owls.

Thank you!

Knife Crime Awareness for Parents and Carers

Knife Crime Awareness Event for Parents and Carers

The B&NES Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP) are running a series of knife crime awareness events throughout February and March.

These events will take place in schools across the area. The first event will be held at Writhlington School on February 22nd (17.30-19.30), followed by Hayesfield Girls School on February 29th (18.00-20.00) and Cameley CEVC Primary School on March 18th (18.00-20.00).

The events are aimed at parents and carers who would like to know more about the dangers of knife crime or are concerned that their children are at risk. They aim to increase awareness of key issues surrounding knife crime, empowering you and your children to make informed and positive decisions to stay safe.

You will have the opportunity to hear from guest speakers with lived experience who have been personally affected by knife crime. There will also be a presentation by Street Doctors followed by a panel discussion with the opportunity to ask questions.

The Bath & North East Somerset Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP) is a multi-agency partnership that aims to prevent and reduce violence in the area. We work to understand and address the root causes of violence, to prevent further violent crimes from occurring in the future. We provide resources and support the work of professionals and community groups who help children at risk or involved in serious violence.
