Value of week: Unique

Message from Mr Snell

As you can see, this week's value of the week is 'Unique'. We pride ourselves at Welton in celebrating achievements and valuing individuality all day, every day and this is why our celebration assemblies at the end of the week are so brilliant! On Friday's we get to celebrate a unique range of achievements from our children. I'm also particularly impressed each week with the range of achievements that occur outside of school - from dancing to darts, from sport to art. It's so important that children get opportunities to try something different and to develop their unique talents. I am therefore particularly delighted that our Year 5 children are about to begin learning the trumpet in school - surely a first for Welton! I can't wait to see (and hear!) how they get on...

With regards to uniqueness, I started the week by introducing the children to the Big School Birdwatch - a chance to notice and celebrate the unique species of birds that we have in our country.  Your child may well have brought home a copy of a survey that they are invited to complete with you - to see how many different species of birds they can observe. Let me know if you see anything unusual!

A few online resources that you might be interested to share with your children include:

https://www.rspb.org.uk/whats-happening/get-ready-for-big-schools-birdwatch Info about the Big Birdwatch from the RSPB

With continued thanks for your support - good luck with the bird watching!

Mr Snell :)

Parent Views - Suggestion Form

At Welton, we see that working collaboratively with parents is pivotal to ensure all children make good progress during their time at school. This is why we feel that it is important to have the opportunity for all stakeholders to ask and raise positive questions or suggestions that will help improve our school.

As you can imagine, as a school, we have agreed targets which we set ourselves each year which push all of our staff to strive for the very best for your children. Sometimes, however, it is important for us to look at the whole school and what we can do to improve it.

Unfortunately, we will be unable to act on every suggestion immediately but we do hope to use some of these constructive suggestions to work towards school improvements. Like anything, if you have solutions to help with your suggestion, these will be gratefully received.

As always, thank you for you continued support in making this three-way partnership (the school, the parents and the children) as successful as it can be.

Amazon Wish list - Nurture Room

It has been the first week of using The Snug in school. Many thanks to those who have already donated or purchased items from the wishlist. This really helps us create a fabulous calming space for our children.

Please take a look at our Amazon Wishlist and, if you can, help us fill it with wonderful things. This is a working list and will be updated regularly. If you feel you could help us to purchase any of these things, we would be extremely grateful.

Attendance at Welton

As we come into this cold snap, please be reminded of when you should keep your child off school in the flyer below.

We are still having a lot of late arrivals in the morning. Please be reminded that school starts at 8:45. Gates are open from 8:30.

If your child is not in class by 8:55, they will be marked as late in the register.

We understand that sometimes being late cannot be helped; however, if this becomes a regular occurrence it is noted and picked up on by the school's educational welfare office who may be in contact to offer support with this.

Please may we ask you try your best to get your children in for 8:45 as this is when learning starts. Thank you for your support with this.

Use of Car Seats

As we come into the chillier season, it's a great opportunity to remind ourselves of the importance of car safety - particularly around car seats for our children.

Beneath is a really easy way of recognising what seats are appropriate for your child. If you need any support with this, please do not hesitate to speak to a member of staff who will be happy to help.

Eco and Geography Week

Eco Week at Welton

Next week, pupils will be learning more about 'Eco' issues with a special focus on litter and recycling. It would be a great time to engage pupils about the recycling you do at home.Things to talk about could include: What materials can and can't be recycled? What do the different recycling labels mean? Where does the recycling go after it is collected? How is it recycled? Why is recycling good for the environment? We would love to hear about any pupils who get involved.

Geography Week

Alongside Eco Week, Children will be taking part in Geography week. Pupils at Welton will have the opportunity to learn about different countries, cities and continents around the world whilst enjoying some local visits in and around the school to take part in some geographical fieldwork activities.

We cannot wait to share our learning with you at 3:00 on Friday next week.

At Welton, we are blessed to have such a fabulous governing body who work extremely hard to support the school. Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing their profiles so you get to know them a little better. If you have any questions about this, or would like to know more about what our governors do, please feel free to speak to Mr Snell or myself and we would be happy to explain.

First up, we have our Chair of Governors: Sarah Lemmon.
