Value of week: Aspiration

Message from Mr Lyle

It has been so lovely walking around school this week seeing how children are applying themselves to their learning both inside and outside of the classroom. When we talk about aspiration, we talk about what we want to achieve, and how we want to achieve this. Not only do we do this, but we also spend time discussing with children; how they can have high aspirations with their manners e.g. holding doors open, saying good morning and coming in with a smile.

I was also blown away with the children's fabulous outfits for World Book Day, yesterday. They had such fabulous ideas and adjectives: confused, discombobulated, crazy and even glittery. Well done to everyone who took part. It was also great to see so many children taking a book home to share with their families - it would be great to make this a regular thing.

Next week is STEM week and we can't wait to have you all in for our STEM fayre next Friday.

Have a lovely weekend and see you Monday. Mr Lyle :)

Illness and Attendance at Welton

Attendance is still a huge focus for everyone at Welton Primary School. We have a challenge for next week...  Our PTFA have kindly donated some cakes to the school. We are going to run an attendance competition. The class with the best attendance next Friday will have a tea party to celebrate them being in school each day.

We know that sometimes illness can't be helped, but we would like a huge push on trying to encourage children to attend school, where they can. As the poster below says: the more time children are out of school, the more learning time is lost.

We can't wait to have our afternoon tea next week with the winning class. :)

Hello

We are very excited to announce that Mrs Halliday will be joining our staff team on Monday the 11th March. Mrs HAlliday has worked in various schools and is very excited to be joining Team Welton. We are sure all of the children and families will give her a warm welcome when you see her on Monday.

She will be working in KS1 and supporting Phonics Interventions in the afternoons.

If you see her, be sure to say hello.

Thank you.

Parent Survey

It's that time of year again where we ask parents for their views on the school and the opportunities for all of our children. Please could you complete the Google Form sharing your opinions. These are incredibly important to us as we continue to ensure your children's school experience is the best place to be.

PTFA Events

Car Wash Challenge

Get those buckets and soapy sponges at the ready!!

The PTFA are asking all pupils to join in a Car Wash Challenge over the Easter holidays.

It's a really good opportunity for the children to really input into raising funds and see the results of their efforts as all funds raised will be going towards new school computer tablets.

Posters will be coming home with children on Friday 22nd March so please look out for them but here's a sneaky peak.....

We look forward to hearing about all the children's hardwork and will be announcing the 'Top Washers' on Friday 19th April'

World Book Day - Thursday 7th March

What a great World Book Day! We had a fab day coming dressed as different adjectives. Thank you to all that took part and to family members who joined us for a reading session at then end of the day. We loved having you in!

We are very excited to soon be ordering some new books for our library for our children thanks to your support and the support of the PTFA. Watch this space! Take a look at the class pages for further images.

STEM Week

We are excited to share with you our plans for Welton Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Week 2024 which will take place w/c Monday 11th March. Throughout the week classes will be planning, experimenting and preparing for our very first Welton STEM Fayre which will be held on Friday 15th March throughout the day. We anticipate that this will be a fun and interactive event led by the children and hope that you might be able to join us? The timetable is below so take a look when you can join us.

In addition to this, we invite families to take part in our Home School Challenge: Create the Ultimate Time Machine.

Have you ever wanted to travel through time or even just wanted to measure the time it takes to brush your teeth with a cool time invention? Now this is the time to create it. We would love to see what you can create that will help you be the ultimate time keeper!

There will be winners for KS1 and KS2 and prizes up for grabs, so get those creative juices flowing and show what fantastic designers, creators and scientists you are.

You could draw your idea, create a presentation, or even make a model of your time machine out of Lego or junk. The opportunities are endless and we cannot wait to see what you create!

Alongside our STEM Fayre, we need your help to enable us to create a pop up Tech Through Time Museum. From Monday 11th, we invite you to send in any old tech that you would be happy to be on display eg. old mobiles, cameras, computers, games consoles etc. It would be helpful if you could write a few sentences on a piece of paper explaining what the piece of tech is and any memories you have of using it - alongside your name. This will not be played with by the children, simply on display for us all to enjoy.

STEM Week

Whole School STEM Challenge Afternoon

On Tuesday afternoon we will be holding a whole school STEM challenge. In house teams, the children will be taking part in the Tallest Paper Tower Challenge: https://youtu.be/dJr2DJRKy5c

In preparation for this challenge we thought that we would share this clip with you to watch and discuss at home.  We are sure that there are plenty of budding engineers amongst our Welton community and welcome you to watch and discuss strategies with your child prior to the event. There are prizes to be won so let's see what we can do!

On Tuesday please send your child to school with a regular sized can which will be returned unopened - but may have a few dents!

Thank you for your continued support. :)

What's on during STEM Week

As you know our plans for Welton's STEM week are well under way. Our week coincides with British Science Week so why not take part at home and join this webinar run by the British Science Association and hosted by Liz Bonnin calling on the public to track the arrival of spring.

The Woodland Trust's Nature's Calendar is a 300-year-old record made up of 3 million UK nature observations, making it the longest, written biological record of its kind!

Together with Nature's Calendar we're calling on the British public to help observe the signs of spring. So, why not get outdoors and get involved? You can find out more about how to be a recorder on the Nature's Calendar blog.

What’s more – we have the fabulous science, natural history and wildlife presenter and British Science Association (BSA) Honorary Fellow, Liz Bonnin (pictured above), co-hosting an exciting webinar for the general public and community groups on Thursday 14 March at 6pm.

Liz will joined by the Nature's Calendar team to explain just how important the records are and how you can be part of upholding this database of wonderful, wildlife knowledge! Sign up below

Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel Event - 11 - 22nd March

.

Once, again this year, we will be taking part in Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel Event from 11-22nd March 2024. Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel inspires pupils to make active journeys to school, improve air quality in their neighbourhood and discover how these changes benefit their world. On each day of the challenge, schools compete to see who can get the highest percentage of their pupils walking, using a wheelchair, scooting or cycling to school.  Schools at the top of their leader boards will receive an exclusive Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel certificate. At Welton we will even be holding an inter class competition.

It would be great to see how many Welton pupils can take part in this challenge which will have a positive impact upon both the environment and mental wellbeing of our school community.

Second Hand Device Guidance

Here are some handy tips if you are handing devices, previously owned by someone else to a child. We hope you find them useful.

Parents will often hand down out of contract devices to their children. This is great, it can save a lot of money, but there needs to be consideration before handing older devices to children. You can find lots of useful information, things to consider and guides to second-hand devices from Internet Matters HERE.
