Value of week:
Courage
Message from Mr Lyle
I was thinking about our value this week and have been thinking about what courage means to me. We talk about courage as being someone that shows bravery and, at Welton, it is evident that courage is something our children have in abundance.
Whether it is standing up and talking in front of peers, coming in to school each day or even having the courage to own up if something hasn't gone the way we planned, our children are some of the most courageous children I know.
We started the week thinking about Greta Thunberg and how she has shown courage to challenge others to make a difference. Children at Welton have been challenging each other to be our best in everything we do. Having high expectations is something we strive to achieve and this comes down to the finer things in day-to-day schooling: how we walk around the school, how we show a readiness to learn or even show respect for one another. Children are working hard to demonstrate that being part of the Welton family isn't just about what you do in books, it's also about leaving year 6 as respectful members of our community and having the courage to stand up for what is right.
We thank you all for your continued support in instilling these high expectations and working together to develop fantastic global citizens. Have a lovely weekend. :)
Bikes and Scooters
As the weather gets nicer, we are aware that more and more children will be coming to school on their bikes and scooters. Please can we remind children that, when they come to school, they should be wearing a helmet, particularly with how busy the roads around us get.
Also, once they are in the school grounds, they must push their scooters and bikes to ensure the safety of everyone. Many thanks for your supprot with this.
Girls' Football show courage against Farmborough
On Wednesday, our girls' football team took on a strong Farmborough side in the plate final. We have been discussing courage at school this week and these girls certainly had it in abundance. At the final whistle, Farmborough were victorious but the determination, grit and teamwork on display for our team was exemplary. Well done to our team and I am sure they will continue to shine as sports people throughout the rest of their time at Welton and if they move on to secondary school. Superstars!
Y5 Multi Skills
On Wednesday, a group of year 5 headed to MSN Rugby Club for an afternoon of games and skill development. They were led by Sports Leaders from Norton Hill and Somervale and all had a great time! Enjoy looking at a snapshot of the afternoon!

NSPCC Stay Safe; Speak Out Assembly
Dear Parent/Carer
NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay safe. programme
I am pleased to inform you that we are participating in the NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay safe. Programme this term. Speak out. Stay safe. is a programme for children aged 5-11 which aims to help children understand abuse in all its forms and to recognise the signs of abuse. Children are taught to speak out if they are worried, either to a safe adult or Childline.
This child friendly programme is aligned with the curriculum and consists of age appropriate virtual assemblies and supporting classroom based activities which we have reviewed. The content is delivered in an engaging and interactive way with the help of the NSPCC mascot Buddy. If you would like to know more about the Speak out. Stay safe. programme visit www.nspcc.org.uk/speakout.
Feedback survey for pupils aged 7-11
The NSPCC would like to gather feedback from pupils aged between 7-11 about the Speak out. Stay safe. programme to gauge their learning. This will be voluntary and children can still take part in the programme if they don’t take part in the survey.
· All survey questions are multiple choice and focussed on the programme.
· The survey is anonymous and confidential. However, if in the process of completing the survey, a teacher becomes concerned for a pupil’s welfare (e.g., through something a pupil says) we will follow our school’s safeguarding procedures.
· If you do not want your child to take part in the survey, please let your class teacher know.

Snapchat MyAI - A Guide for Parents
As we all know Snapchat is one of the main social apps used by children from approx. Y3 upwards. Snapchat introduced MyAI as a new feature which can't be removed within Snapchat and this is why, over the last few months, there have been lots of children who are experimenting with this chatbot.
Wayne Denner, an online safety consultant, has put together a really handy article explaining all about MyAI, the features, issues and some tips for parents.
You can find the article HERE (it was written and shared a few months ago but has since been updated).
