Autumn Term
This term we will be taking a closer look at place value in Maths lessons as well as using the four operations. Our Science topic is 'Living things and their habitats', our Geography focus (and a lot of our English) is Rainforests and in History we will be looking at Mayan civilisations. In PE, we will be improving our football techniques. We hope to have brass instrument lessons starting soon. Our RE lessons are focusing on Christianity. English lessons are a mixture of spellings, handwriting, punctuation and grammar - we learn different techniques, practise them and we aim to put all our knowledge together in a final piece of writing.
What will we be learning this term? See 'useful information' page for termly updates.

We have settled in to life in year 5 and your children are becoming secure with the routines of the classroom. For example, when they first come in at 8:40 there is an early morning task for them to complete or possible an individual activity to do. It is really important that your child turns up to school on time as vital learning can be 'lost'.
In English, we have written some fantastic poems about the rainforest and have them at hand in our classroom in a folder if anyone would like to read them. In Maths, we have been focuing on multiplication and division, and more recently we have looked at square and prime numbers. Please see below some photos of us in action with our 'Doodlers'.

What an amazing start to the new academic year. Your children are absolutely fantastic - they have lovely manners and take pride in their work. They are enthusiastic learners and have a wealth of knowledge that they love to share. Please check out this part of the class page for updates - I hope to include photos and examples of work.
Meet our wonderful team.
I'm Mrs Hartley and I love teaching at Welton! My favourite lessons to teach are Maths and English. I like to teach part of my lessons in different spaces so you may find me and my lovely Hawks in the hall, the library or using outdoor spaces.
I enjoy seeing members of our school community out and about in Midsomer Norton; please give me a wave if you ever see me.🙂
