Weekly updates
Term 2 Week 4
We hve been working hard in maths this week. the Year 1s are working out how to partition numbers. They were given a large number and they had to partition it into 10s and 1s using a part, whole model. They did this very well as a group.
We had super fun in our Computing lesson. We have been learning all about algorithms. We have looked at the Beebots and how they can be used to input algorithms. The children had a chance to make their own map for their Beebots to travel around. They thought hard about what theme they wanted and what things they wanted on their maps of the Beebot to visit. Next week, we will plan some algorithms for our maps and see if they work!
Term 2 Week 3
We had great fun with the apparatus this week in our gymnastics lesson. the children had to explore the apparatus using the different positions taught: straight, tuck, pike and straddle. They did this very well.
Term 2 Week 2
Three of our lovely Nightingale girls had such fun at the Norton carnival. They danced the night away! Don't they look super?
As our Walton Ramble was cancelled due to bad weather, we decided to finish off our Anti-Bullying Week with thoughts on how we can spread smiles with our words. We read the book Melrose and Croc Find a Smile and then we decided to think about the friends in our classroom. Each child had a certificate with their name on it and the children wrote down all the lovely things about that person. It was lovely to see the children's' smiles as they both wrote lovely comments and read their own.
Term 2 Week 1
What a fantastic first week we've had in Nightingale Class! The children have settled in really well and produced some amazing work.
Term 1 Week 7
The children are enjoying their Forest School sessions every other week. They had a go at making beautiful nature pictures using stocks to make a picture frame. They also had a go at den building. As you can see, they have been very creative! Just a reminder that Forest School is on the first Tuesday after half term.
Term 1 Week 6
Term 1 Week 5
The children are loving our Forest School sessions. Here's some pictures of what they have been doing:
Term 1 Week 4
We finally had a look at the results of our experiments today to see the results. We planted 5 pots of seeds.
Pot 1: had soil, water, sunlight and the right temperature.
Pot 2: no soil, water, sunlight and the right temperature.
Pot 3: had soil, no water, sunlight and the right temperature.
Pot 4: had soil, water, no sunlight and the right temperature.
Pot 5: had soil, water, sunlight and the wrong temperature.
Here were our results!
Term 1 Week 3
Today we looked at seeds and what they need to be healthy. We discussed what all plants need to survive and we realised that plants need: light, soil, water and a good temperature. We conducted an experiment to see what would happen if we took away one of these factors. The children were split into groups and were able to plant some cress seeds. Each group was given a single factor that they had to leave out, but one group had all of the factors in place. Next week we will see our results!
Term 1 Week 2
We've had another fantastic week in Nightingale Class. The children have settled in beautifully and we are really enjoying our learning. This week, the children were learning about seeds and bulbs in our science lesson. We sorted some pictures out into which have seeds and which have bulbs and then we had a look at some real seeds and bulbs using, magnifying glasses. We then went out into the School grounds to have a seed and bulb hunt. The children found many different seeds, but they did not find any bulbs. One of the children explained this to us by saying that we could not find the bulbs because they were hidden under the ground. The children had great fun learning about plants and were eager, to find as many different seeds as they could.
Term 1 Week 1
We have had a fantastic start to our year in Nightingale Class. The children have come in enthusiastic and ready to learn. We have begun looking at the Rainbow Dragon, in English, and the children are going to use this piece of writing as inspiration to write their own descriptions of Rainbow Dragons.
Here is our WAGOLL (What A Good One Looks Like) of our Rainbow Dragon writing:
The Rainbow Dragon is a rare and beautiful dragon. Where can you find a Rainbow Dragon? Rainbow Dragons can be found all over the world, but they really like to live in deep dark forests in the wide branches of high majestic trees. They are small dragons with tiny leathery wings, sharp pointy teeth and a long spiky tail. They have small, shimmery and colourful scales that flash in the sun.
Rainbow dragons eat colourful autumn leaves, the wings of butterflies and flower petals. What fascinating creatures they are!
The children had great fun reading this and next week, they will be writing about their very own Rainbow Dragons. Have a look out this weekend and see if you can spot a Rainbow Dragon (they do love this tme of year!).
