What a wonderful week at Welton! We have been focusing on our school value of Ambition, and it has been lovely to see so many children giving their all in everything they do. I have shown several visitors around the school over the past few days, and so many commended our pupils on their behaviour, manners, and attitude. This is something that makes all of us immensely proud.
In the classroom, we have been busy developing our writing across the school. Our main focus has been editing, and it has been fantastic to see children taking such care with their work - thinking about how they can improve their writing and support their peers. Alongside this, the children in The Nest created some excellent drawings linked to their reading of Not Now, Bernard. It was lovely of them to share their code words with us!
Today, we celebrated the European Day of Languages. The children spent the day learning German, using French dictionaries, exploring pointillism, and enjoying a French café! Their enthusiasm and engagement were a joy to behold.
Well done to all of our Stars of the Week: Delilah, Teddy, Nataya, Bethany, Leo S, Rory B, and Alex P. Also, well done to those who received Magic Moments! Please check your in-app messages so you can join us in celebrating these lovely achievements.
Looking ahead to next week, I look forward to seeing our pupils show ambition as they put themselves forward for the Student Council to help make our school even better. We also have author Amy Wilson visiting, and I am certain she will love sharing her passion for reading with the children. Don't forget that you can purchase her book via Arbor.
Please also check that your information on Arbor is up to date, particularly regarding medical details and allergies. As a reminder, any medication brought into school must have an official prescription label attached; we are unable to administer medicine without one.
As always, have a wonderful weekend, and see you all on Monday!
We were delighted to welcome Avon and Somerset Fire Service to Welton! Our EYFS and KS1 children enjoyed a fantastic hands-on assembly, learning about the important work firefighters do. They even had the exciting opportunity to try on real firefighter protective clothing and equipment!
KS2 pupils took part in an engaging assembly exploring the role of a firefighter, the different ways the Fire Service helps our community and essential fire safety messages to help keep themselves and others safe.
A huge thank you to the firefighters for giving our children such a memorable and informative experience.
As part of Team Time, our Year 5 and 6 pupils explored how they could make a real difference in their community. After discussing local issues and voting on what mattered most to them, the children chose to focus their social action campaign on tackling loneliness.
This week, they put their ideas into action by visiting Bloomfield Care Home for a games afternoon with the residents. The children spent time chatting, playing games and building connections across generations. It was a wonderful opportunity to bring their social action project to life and show our HEART values in action, particularly Empathy and Togetherness.
This year, we are proud to introduce an exciting new tradition at Welton: the appointment of our Head Boy and Head Girl. Well done to Rory and Ember who have been chosen this year.
These prestigious pupil leadership roles will give them the opportunity to represent Welton, champion the views of their fellow pupils and play an active part in school and community life. Our Head Boy and Head Girl will be ambassadors for our HEART values, setting a positive example and helping to make a real difference across our school.
We can’t wait to see both of them step up to their role, find their voice, and show us what leadership at Welton can look like!
We have several reports of parents parking on Wishford Mews. Please refrain from doing this as this is a private road and the people living in the houses need to get out during many points throughout the day. Thank you for your support with this.
We are looking to continue to enrich our outdoor lunchtime play for the children and would be incredibly grateful for any unwanted items you might have cluttering up your sheds, garages, or cupboards.
If you are having a clear-out, we are currently collecting:
Toy vehicles: Old cars, tractors, or sturdy vehicles
Building supplies: Loose Lego bricks or Duplo
Den-building materials: Tarpaulins, old sheets, oversized pegs, milk crates, or smooth wooden planks
Sandpit bits: Buckets, spades, sand moulds, rakes, and jugs
Mud kitchen equipment: Old cooking utensils (metal saucepans, wooden spoons, whisks, baking tins, colanders, or old teapots)
Calling all DIY Enthusiasts!
We also have a special project in the pipeline: we are looking to construct a wooden frame for our boat to turn it into a fantastic new play space. If you have woodworking or carpentry skills and could spare a little time to help us build it, we would love to hear from you.
Please drop any donations off at the school office, or contact me if you can lend a hand with the boat frame. Thank you so much for your continued support!
We're excited to announce Amy Wilson author of the Trouble with Magic as our first author to visit us on Tuesday 29th September. Our KS2 children will have an assembly with Amy in the morning and there will be an opportunity for children to get a book signed if they wish.
The first in a rich and evocative magical fantasy series. Combining beautiful writing with a dark, sparkling adventure story, this book will stay with you long after you finish the last page! Perfect for fans of Anna James and Kiran Millwood Hargrave. When Fray's hidden magic is revealed, he is forced back to Hexton - the magical town from which his family were banished.
With no one to trust and nowhere to turn, Fray must face people who see his very name as a curse, others who believe he might be the solution they've been searching for, and those desperate to get their hands on his mysterious Croxometer - one of the most powerful magical objects to ever exist. And with the very essence of Hexton in danger, can Fray live up to his magical legacy while also finding the place where he belongs?
Copies of the book, The Hexton Chronicles, are now available to purchase via Arbor parent portal/app ahead of her visit and any that are ordered before the event will be given out on the day. Usually retailing at £8.99, we can offer the books at a reduced, special price of £6.90!
Please ensure that you are not bringing items in that have nuts in, in school. See below an image of foods you may not know have nuts in...

Being in school every day really does matter. When children miss school, they don’t just miss the work, they miss direct teaching, explanations, discussion and opportunities to practise new learning. This can make it harder to understand what comes next.
Regular attendance also supports friendships, routines and wellbeing, helping children feel confident, connected and ready to learn. We understand that children will sometimes be too unwell to attend and we are always here to support families when attendance becomes difficult.
Every day in school is a day to learn, belong and grow.

Online games can be a great way for children to play and socialise, but as we know many games now include messaging, voice chat, purchases and interaction with people they do not know offline.
Ofcom’s Parents Power Up guidance gives families a simple framework built around Check, Chat and Change — checking account details and settings, talking about who children play with and changing safety or parental controls where needed.
