What an absolute whirlwind of a week we’ve had here at Welton! It’s been lovely to see everyone’s unique personalities and talents shining through, as we’ve been busy celebrating what makes every single one of our pupils so special. Our Year 3 and Year 5 children were out and about exploring We the Curious and the Bristol Museum. From chatting with the teachers, it is lovely to hear how they were absolute credits to the school. Hearing about them dive into the exhibits with such curiosity and represent Welton so brilliantly made us all properly proud. I look forward to hearing all about it next week!
Back at school, the hard work hasn't stopped for a second. Nightingale Class have been getting stuck into the world of materials, while over in Hawk Class, things have gone high-tech with some seriously impressive Microbit tinkering and coding. It was also lovely to see some of our wonderful Wrens showing their fantastic collaboration skills in PE this afternoon, focusing on balance and coordination. It was also great to meet with school council today to see how the children can help us lead the growth and bring about change within our school and in society.
As we kick off our Year of Reading, we’ve been thrilled to see so many children stepping up to smash their reading challenges. We really want to help every child find a genuine love for books, and we know that the real magic often starts at home with a quiet story or a shared chapter. On top of that, a massive thank you to all our parents and carers for getting the children through the gates bright and early; we’ve seen a real drop in lateness lately, which makes the start of the day so much smoother for everyone. Let’s keep that streak going! Have a fantastic, restful weekend, everyone—the whole Welton family has certainly earned it.
We are very excited to announce that on Friday 6th February, at 2:15, we will be having an online safety talk from Isobel Corby, a Cyber Protection Officer who works for Avon and Somerset Police. During her visit, she will be talking about how to deal with cyber bullying and also monitoring and talking about your child's online use. We feel this will be a valuable session for all parents on how we can navigate the online world and would urge many of you to attend, particularly as children move on. Refreshments will be provided and we will be finished in time for school pick up.
The Children's Commissioner has put together a fantastic guide for parents and carers. At around 26 pages it goes into a lot of depth including:
Screen time.
When bad things happen.
Artificial intelligence.
Conversation starters.
Actions to take checklist.
And much more.
Download the Children's Commissioner - What I wish my parents and carers knew guide, at the bottom of the page you will find a PDF download and an activity pack.
Music is well underway in Year 3 and 4 this term. Thanks to our fantastic PTFA, the children are busy working with WEMA to learn new instruments. In Year 4, children have been busy learning the ukulele and thinking carefully about the finger patterns to play different notes. In Year 3, this week, the children have begun to learn the toot. We were so impressed with all of their playing! What stars!
Our brilliant School Council have been putting their heads together recently to find a way to give back, and they’ve come up with a fantastic plan! We are delighted to announce that we’ll be holding a Ramble and Non-Uniform Day on Friday 13th to raise money for Remind UK. https://www.reminduk.org/
For those who haven't come across their work before, Remind UK is a wonderful charity dedicated to supporting people living with dementia and their families. They do a vital job in providing guidance, support, and a bit of a lifeline to those navigating the challenges dementia brings. To help support this cause, we’re asking for a £1 donation per child, which can be paid easily via Arbor Pay.
It’s always so heartening to see our pupils taking the lead on how we can help others, and we’re properly proud of the School Council for choosing such a meaningful charity. Thank you so much for getting behind them and helping our children see that they really can make a positive difference in the world!
Please speak to Mr Lyle if you can help with the walk. :)
We’re also on a bit of a mission to make our outdoor play even more exciting through OPAL, and we could really use a helping hand from our wonderful Welton community! If you happen to have any spare tyres or trowels taking up space in your garage or shed, we’d absolutely love to take them off your hands. They’re perfect for the children to use for building, digging, and exploring during their break times.
Speaking of the great outdoors, we’ve got a bit of a dream project in mind: we would love to create a gravel path leading from the paved area all the way to "the nest." It would make such a difference for the children, especially when things get a bit soggy! We’re looking for a few parent volunteers who might be willing to give a bit of their time and elbow grease to help us make this happen. If you’re handy with a shovel or just fancy helping us improve the grounds, please do have a chat with Mr Lyle. We’d be so grateful for any help you can offer.
We were delighted to take a group of children to Writhlington Sports Centre this week as part of a gymnastics festival. The children had the opportunity to take part in a variety of exciting gym related activities using some of the fantastic equipment at the centre. It was particularly great to see our children overcome their hesitation when faced with a particularly high or tricky piece of apparatus. A great example of our school values of 'courage' and 'aspiration' in action!
Many thanks to everyone for their support as we have continued to merge across to Arbor. As with any of these system, it can be a challenge due to their being glitches so we thank you for your patience with this. If you have any issues, please speak to us about this. In the future weeks, it will be likely that we will be using this system for parents' evenings and future club bookings so it is important you get logged in. :) Thank you.
We absolutely love being able to offer our wrap-around care—it’s such a brilliant way for the children to unwind and have a bit of extra fun outside the usual school hours. This evening at Progressive Kids Club, things got rather creative (and deliciously messy!) as the children whipped up some truly fantastic iced biscuits. There were some seriously impressive designs on display, and it was lovely to see everyone getting stuck in and enjoying themselves.
If you’d like your little ones to join in the fun, you can book your spot directly through the school website here: https://www.weltonprimaryschool.co.uk/our-school/after-school-club.htm. Should you have any questions or just want to find out more about what they get up to, please do feel free to reach out to James and Chloe from PK directly—they are always happy to help!
A massive thank you to our PTFA for putting on such a superb bake sale for Ludlow house—what a spread! We’re also incredibly grateful to all the families who rolled up their sleeves to help with the baking; the cakes were a huge hit and your support really made the event. Tyning next on the 5th March.
Looking ahead, the excitement is building for our upcoming school disco! It’s bound to be a brilliant night, so please do check Classlist for all the specific details and timings for each year group.
