It has once again been another fantastically busy week at Welton! At the beginning of the school year we agreed as a staff that we were going to provide even more opportunities for you, as our parent and carer community, to get involved in life at Welton - and this week has been a fantastic example of this!
Our Outdoor Play and Learning afternoon on Wednesday was a huge success as so many of you joined in with the opportunity to play together and learn more about the importance of OPAL - I spotted some great dancing from some mums and dads! We also hosted the second of our open PE lessons, this week inviting Reception Class parents to join their children and sports coach Mr Kingwell for some active fun together. We all agreed that it was a bit too chilly to be outside first thing in the morning so made the most of our school hall for the lesson (I think everyone was grateful!). This morning we enjoyed seeing grown ups join us in our nursery setting for a music and movement session - Dance with Dolly! Again, another super fun way to welcome you to our school!
It perhaps goes without saying that I'm so proud of the fantastic team of teachers and support staff who are constantly thinking of new and exciting ways to engage with you, from events such as these to practical workshops where you get to learn about how to support your child at home. I know that there are plenty more events to come so please keep an eye on the school calendar on our website for details. The next big fundraising event is our Christmas Fayre on Friday 5th December, 4.30pm to 7pm. I was at the PTFA AGM last night and the parent team are working incredibly hard to make it another enjoyable and successful event. As always, if you can spare even half an hour on that day to help (even with setting up), it would be massively appreciated. Just let the school office know.
With thanks for your continued support - I look forward to seeing you at an event soon!, Mr Snell :)
A HUGE thank you to all the parents who came along to our recent Stay and Play session! It was fantastic seeing so many of you join us to dive into the wonderful world of play. We hope you now have a better understanding of just how important play is, and why we're so passionate about offering a variety of play experiences for the children at lunchtimes.
We genuinely had the best time celebrating all things play with you! Whether it was the amazing Den Building skills on display or the fierce (but fun!) Tug of War, we loved having you join us and hope you enjoyed celebrating all things play with your children.
As we chatted about, if you have any bits and pieces at home that you'd be happy to donate for our playtime resources, please do bring them in! We would absolutely love anything you have to offer to keep our playtime adventures exciting and fresh. Thanks again for making it such a brilliant morning!
Save the dates!
On Wednesday 17th December, we will be having a bumper afternoon Christmas performances. Please join us for a variety of performances. The PTFA will be selling refreshments on the day. These will all be in the school hall.
Nursery Christmas Performance - Wednesday 17th December (1:00 - 1:45)
KS1 and Year 3 Christmas Performance - Wednesday 17th December (2:00 - 3:00)
Year 4, 5 and 6 Christmas Karaoke - Wednesday 17th December (5:30 - 6:30)
What a performance from our Y5/6 football squad at the recent tournament! The boys showed incredible resilience and effort throughout the afternoon, battling hard in every single match.
We started with a tough game, losing 2-1 to a strong Trinity side. The drama went right down to the wire, with Thomas striking the bar in the very last minute! Next up was Kilmersdon, another strong opponent. While the final score was 4-2 to them, every single player put in a brilliant shift. The boys then earned a hard-fought 2-2 draw against St Mary's, which featured some truly tireless running from Teddy, Isaac, and Jacob—fantastic work, boys!
A massive shout out to the whole team: Thomas, Marley, Jake, Max R, Max B, Will, Niyian, Corey, Teddy, Isaac, and Jacob. Thank you to all the parents for their fantastic support on the sidelines, and a special mention must go to our Assistant Manager, Raife, for supporting and encouraging the boys throughout the entire event!
We are excited to once again be connecting with a school in Spain https://colegiovirgendelcarmen.com/ and have agreed to set up a fantastic opportunity to develop 'Pen Pals'* for a group of children at Welton in Years 5 and 6.
21 pupils in Year 5 at the Spanish school are looking to connect with 21 children from Welton by writing and exchanging letters over the coming year. In the first instance we will post the letters in one delivery from Welton however if this is successful, you and your child may like to continue connecting by sending letters directly yourselves. The exciting news is that the 21 children from Spain are visiting Welton next March so your child will also get the opportunity to connect face to face with their new international friend!
If you would like your child to be considered for this exciting opportunity, please add their name to this form together with your home address which will be shared securely with the teachers in Spain. This will be a first come, first served opportunity however if we have more than 21 children apply, we will contact the school to see if they have any more pupils interested in connecting (although these children will not be visiting Welton next year).
*A pen pal is a person you become friends with by regularly exchanging letters, or sometimes emails, usually over a long distance. "Pen" refers to the writing part (the letters). "Pal" means friend. It's a great way to:
Make a friend in a different place or even a different country.
Learn about another culture or practice a new language.
Get the fun experience of writing and receiving mail
We had our AGM this week and cannot wait to share the minutes with you and look forward to talking about the year ahead. Keep a look out for key dates next week.
Until then, don't forget it is non uniform next week with a donation for the tombola. Also, if you are getting rid of any teddies please send them into the school office for the fayre. With two weeks to go, we are getting very excited. Thanks for your continued support.
What a brilliant time we had during our recent Parents in PE session with Wren Class!
We absolutely loved being joined by so many of our parents to explore the vital skills of communication and collaboration. It was fantastic to see the children and parents working together, solving challenges, and cheering each other on! These sessions really highlight how important teamwork is, both in and out of the PE hall.
A huge thank you to Mr. Kingwell for putting on such brilliant and engaging sessions! We can't wait for next week when we'll be welcoming our Year 6 parents to join the fun!
Our Year 4 mathematicians had a fantastic time representing the school at the recent Maths Event held at Prior Park!
The children took part in a variety of challenging activities designed to put their teamwork, problem-solving, and reasoning skills to the test. From intricate challenges like building marble runs to high-stakes tasks where they had to crack codes, the children embraced every moment and had a truly brilliant time.
A huge well done to Monty, Leo S, Rory, and Enea for their fantastic effort and hard work throughout the day. We were incredibly proud of how well you represented us!
Today, marked our first preschool event of the year. We loved welcoming families, old and new into the school to participate in our Dancing With Dolly classes. The children loved the jungle theme and moving to different beats with different equipment. We absolutely loved it! Keep an eye out in the newsletter for our next event!
We're thrilled to announce the launch of our new Eco Team! This week, the team was joined by Nikki from Energy Sparks, who shared some fantastic insights into the vital importance of reducing our school's energy consumption and tackling wasted fuels. It was a truly eye-opening session that got our Eco Team thinking seriously about our environmental impact.
Inspired by Nikki's talk, the children quickly put their knowledge into action! They bravely led an assembly for the whole school, highlighting practical steps we can all take to improve our energy saving efforts. As their first big project, the Eco Team has agreed to create a new classroom checklist designed to help every class save energy daily—from turning off lights to powering down monitors.
We are so proud of their initiative and commitment! Watch this space for more updates as our Eco Team starts making a real difference!
We were absolutely blown away by the incredible performance put on by our Year 5 students with their trumpets this week!
We were so impressed with the children's resilience as they tackled the challenge of learning a new instrument. It takes real dedication to not only master playing the trumpet but also to learn how to read music—a skill that will open so many doors for them in the future. Their hard work truly paid off, and their performance was a delight to watch.
The children’s orchestral skills were exceptional, demonstrating a fantastic ability to listen to one another and play together as a cohesive group. They should be extremely proud of what they achieved!
We now look forward to next week when we will be celebrating the musical talents of our Year 6 students during their clarinet performance!
Take a look at our class pages below! We will be updating these on the school website in the coming weeks!
This spring Stagecoach Midsomer Norton will be performing the incredible Matilda the Musical.
We're so excited that our talented students will get to step into the world of Roald Dahl's beloved story. This show is all about bravery, creativity, and standing up for what's right. If you know a child who might like to get involved, we'd love to hear from you. Enrolments for our next term are now OPEN.
Classes run every Saturday morning at Welton Primary School starting on the 10th of Jan. The performance will be on the 22nd April at the Dragonfly Theatre. Visit our website or give Principal Charlie a call on 07435050703 to see if there are spaces for your child's age group and book a 2-week trial today!
Thank you 🙂
