As we come to the end of another brilliant week, it is a wonderful time to reflect upon our fantastic children and all they have achieved so far. Well done to our Stars of the Week: Rupert, Violet, Seb, Maria, Amelia, Junior, and Teddy. They have shown excellent ambition and resilience in all that they do.
I would also like to say a huge well done to our new House Captains, who were voted for by their peers this week. They will be supporting the school throughout the coming year. They are:
Ludlow: Emma and Isaac
Huish: Isobel and Laylen
Old Mills: Lilly-Rose and Lily
Tyning: Teddy and Rebecca
At the start of the week, we talked about learning approaches with our pupils. You may find them coming home talking about DELBAR: Do now, Engage, Learn, Build, Apply, and Review. We are using this framework to help our children understand what they need to know and the steps required to succeed.
We were also excited to be joined by Sporting Family Change, who are working with our Year 4 children on their kindness programme—a one-of-a-kind series of lessons about what kindness means and how we can spread it across our community. Your children may have come home with a 'pass it on' card. You can find out more about this initiative here: https://www.sportingfamilychange.co.uk/ocean-of-kindness-1
Looking ahead, we have another action-packed week planned! We will be sharing our plans for our School Council ambassadors, and I will be meeting with our new House Captains to discuss how we can work together to improve our school.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend and look forward to seeing you all on Monday!
Are you a parent with an eye for design, illustration, or fine art? We are looking for some keen parents to help updates within our school. If this is something you are interested in, please let one of us know.
Also, if you have a brilliant idea about how we can get our boat up and running for children to use, please let us know! This is something we would really like to get sorted for our children. :)
We’re looking for parent and community volunteers to listen to children read in school. Even a small amount of your time can make a big difference, giving children valuable extra reading practice, encouragement and the chance to share a book with someone who is interested in their progress. If you could spare some time each week, or even occasionally, we’d love to hear from you! Don’t worry if you don’t already have a DBS check in place, we can arrange this for you through school and support you through the process. Please speak to the school office if you’d like to get involved.
We're excited to announce Amy Wilson author of the Trouble with Magic as our first author to visit us on Tuesday 29th September. Our KS2 children will have an assembly with Amy in the morning and there will be an opportunity for children to get a book signed if they wish.
The first in a rich and evocative magical fantasy series. Combining beautiful writing with a dark, sparkling adventure story, this book will stay with you long after you finish the last page! Perfect for fans of Anna James and Kiran Millwood Hargrave. When Fray's hidden magic is revealed, he is forced back to Hexton - the magical town from which his family were banished.
With no one to trust and nowhere to turn, Fray must face people who see his very name as a curse, others who believe he might be the solution they've been searching for, and those desperate to get their hands on his mysterious Croxometer - one of the most powerful magical objects to ever exist. And with the very essence of Hexton in danger, can Fray live up to his magical legacy while also finding the place where he belongs?
Copies of the book will be available to purchase via Arbor parent portal/app ahead of her visit and any that are ordered before the event will be given out on the day. Usually retailing at £8.99, we can offer the books at a reduced, special price of £6.79!
Please be reminded that we are an allergy aware school, so do not send your children in with any nut-based products - kinder beunos, nutella etc.
Similarly, please ensure that you have updated allergies on Arbor - this can be done via the app.
We are delighted to announce that Parent/Carer evenings will be open from 18:00 this evening for you to book on Arbor. This is a lovely opportunity to come together, celebrate your child’s achievements and share how they are learning, growing and getting on at school.
We love sharing the brilliant things our children get up to at Welton and that certainly isn’t going to stop! However, with technology and AI developing incredibly quickly, we are changing the way we share photographs on our website and social media to help protect our children’s privacy and digital footprint.
You’ll still see plenty of wonderful snapshots of life at Welton, but we’ll be getting a little more creative! Expect busy hands making and creating, muddy wellies, backs of heads absorbed in a great book, fantastic work, group activities and all those little details that capture the magic of learning without children being clearly identifiable. We will also be including side on shots, with parent permission, as these are harder for AI to generate content from. If you would like your child not to be included in side on shots, please let the school office know.
It’s a small change that allows us to keep celebrating everything that makes Welton special, while putting the safety of our children first.
Please bear with us as we get to grips with our photo skills and try to capture the brilliance at Welton whilst maintain our children's safety. As a result, our web pages are taking a little longer to create, so should be with you next week!
Thank you for your understanding.
Regular attendance is the cornerstone of a successful school experience, helping children build confidence, establish routine, and master essential skills step by step. When pupils miss school, even for a short time, the social and academic gaps can accumulate quickly. We want to work alongside every family to ensure all our young learners are present, thriving, and getting the very best from their time with us.
How to Report an Absence
We understand that illness and unexpected circumstances arise. To help us maintain our safeguarding standards and ensure every child is safely accounted for, please follow our standard reporting procedure whenever your child is unable to attend:
Daily Notification Before 8:00 am: Please contact the school office by phone before 8:00 am on every day your child is absent. Prompt communication ensures our registers are accurate before the school day begins.
Providing Specific Reasons: We require a clear, specific reason for every absence. Broad descriptions such as 'under the weather,' 'unwell,' or 'poorly' do not meet local attendance monitoring requirements or our safeguarding responsibilities.
Follow-Up Inquiries: If a general term like 'under the weather' is provided, our administrative team will contact you for further details. Providing precise information upfront—such as "high temperature," "chickenpox," or a specific medical appointment—helps us support your child's return to school and track communicable illnesses across year groups.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership in keeping our school community safe, healthy, and learning together.
We’re really pleased to be working with Bath Parent Carer Forum, who offer a fantastic source of support, advice and signposting for parents and carers. Whether you have a question, need some guidance, want to know what support might be available or simply aren’t sure where to start, they are there to listen and help point you in the right direction.
A member of the team will be available at the end of the school day on 20th November for an informal chat. They will also be joining us for Parents’ Evening on Wednesday 21st October, where we will have a quiet, private space available if you would like to talk, seek advice or find out more about the support available to your family. Please do come and say hello, no question is too small.
If you need any support in the meantime, please email reps@banespcf.co.uk if you would like some support or check out their website - https://banespcf.co.uk/

Internet Matters' free Find the Fake activity is designed for families to try together. It's a simple way to start conversations about whether something online can be trusted and what children can do before believing or sharing it.
Why not try it together and see who gets the highest score?
If you are interested in being a part of our PTFA, please come along to our meeting on Thursday 24th ayt 6:00. This is where you can find out how you can help our school and what is expected as part of our PTFA team. :)
