Well, the penultimate week of term has certainly been a busy one! A number of children have represented Team Welton at sporting events and trips this week with a netball match against Farrington Primary School on Monday and the football team in action on Wednesday against Farmborough Primary School. We are incredibly proud of the children who represented our school so well. Well done to all who took part as they showed a brilliant competitive approach while also being fantastic sports people by showing respect to their opponents. See below for details!
Respect has been our value of the week which began on Monday with an assembly from Avon Fire Service who taught us the importance of being respectful and safe around fireworks. All children were clear that as we approach the firework season, adults are in charge of fireworks and keeping us safe. We even learnt about how to use sparklers safely - see if your child can remember!
We often talk about respect as something that we show to others however our assembly on Monday reminded us that we have a responsibility to be respectful to the world around us too - particularly when it comes to keeping ourselves safe. A living example of this in action at Welton is with our fantastic forest school and OPAL provision. Each week we talk together about the exciting opportunities these provide for us however we are all clear that these exciting opportunities need to be treated with respect. I'm delighted that our children understand the importance of this. You might like to talk with your children about our OPAL provision and some of the things they have been enjoying this week.
I'm looking forward to seeing you at Parent/Carer Evenings next week. If you haven't yet made an appointment, please do so as this is an important opportunity to update you on the progress of your child since they started back this September. I would like 100% of our families to be involved. Don't forget that Friday 24th is an INSET day so the last day of term will be next Thursday 23rd October. With thanks for your continued support,
Mr Snell :)
We have received an extremely serious complaint from a Florida Terrace resident regarding parking this week.
The incident was unacceptable: a resident was blocked into their own drive (incurring emergency childcare costs), yellow lines were ignored, and pavements were blocked, forcing pedestrians into the road. This creates a severe safety hazard for everyone, especially in an emergency.
Immediate Action & Consequences
The resident is now taking firm action:
They have reported illegal parking to the Police and Council for fines.
They have photos of vehicle licenses.
With CCTV now installed, they confirm every single illegally parked car will be reported without exception.
We urge every parent to find a safe, legal, and respectful parking spot. Please show consideration for our neighbours and help keep our children safe.
The school's Parent-Teacher-Friends Association (PTFA) is an absolutely brilliant force for good! They make a huge, tangible impact on our pupils' lives by raising vital funds that go directly towards giving every student the very best experience and resources. This incredible group dedicates countless hours of their own time—volunteering at events, coordinating efforts, and planning initiatives—all to benefit our school community. We simply couldn't do it without them!
Get Involved: PTFA Annual General Meeting (AGM)
We would love for you to join us at the upcoming PTFA Annual General Meeting (AGM). It’s a great chance to hear about the incredible achievements of the past year, learn where the funds have been spent, and discover the plans for the future.
We are always eager to welcome new members and fresh perspectives! If you have a passion for helping our school community and can spare a little time, please consider joining us. Even a small commitment can make a huge difference!
Save the Date: Christmas Fayre!
Please mark your calendars for our annual festive highlight! The Christmas Fayre is one of the PTFA's biggest and most successful fundraising events of the year.
Come along for festive fun, great stalls, and a fantastic community atmosphere—all while supporting the school!
We kicked off this week with another fantastic match and this time we played against Farrington Gurney. It was fantastic to see our team grow in confidence and become more familiar with the rules of play as the minutes ticked by. We saw some great goals and whilst the final score was 9-5 to Farrington, we had a great game all round! Well done to Grace, Elsie, Gabriella, Lily, Isabelle, Ember, Emma, Emme and Amelia for playing so well!
What an excellent result for the Welton Year 5/6 football team this week! They secured a convincing 3-1 victory against Farmborough, showing real quality and fantastic teamwork from start to finish.
The boys played with great spirit and determination, combining individual talent with a cohesive team effort throughout the match.
The goals were scored by our sharp attackers. Jacob got things started with a well-taken goal, Teddy added to the tally with a superb finish, and Raife sealed the win by converting a chance brilliantly. Three fantastic goals from three great players!
Equally important was the performance of the back line. A huge well done to the lads in defence for their solid and stellar defending. They were organised, worked tirelessly, and made several crucial tackles and clearances, ensuring our lead was safe until the final whistle.
We take this excellent momentum into our next game against Trinity. We are fully focused on securing another three points and continuing our winning run!
Fantastic effort, boys! We're proud of your commitment and performance!
A big thanks to our PTFA for the first disco of the year- it was great fun and the children looked fantastic in their costumes! It looks like we have raised over £300 which is a fantastic start to our fundraising this year. Remember all the money raised at these events goes back into the school to provide opportunities and resources for our school so we really do appreciate your support.
On Tuesday, Y3/4 had a thoroughly enjoyable morning at The Egg Theatre in Bath watching the show 'Shed-Ache'. The show was wordless and performed entirely through dance and expression. Our children were captivated and it was great to hear such loud belly laughs erupting every so often. They represented the school so well and we can't wait to have another opportunity to return or see some more drama in the future!
What a fantastic term for our Year 5 pupils, who've been sinking birdies and mastering their swing in PE! Led by PGA Professional Tom Snelling, the children have spent the term immersed in learning the different skills and techniques essential for golf. From grip to stance, chipping to driving, their dedication has been incredible!
The term culminated in a brilliant trip to Mendip Golf Club. Here, the children put their newly acquired abilities to the ultimate test, spending time on the driving range and the putting green. It was fantastic to see them apply their learning in a professional setting.
We are so incredibly proud of the resilience and determination shown by every single pupil. They approached every challenge with a positive attitude and a desire to improve!
A huge thank you must go to Mendip Golf Club for their wonderful partnership and for providing our pupils with such a valuable and memorable experience. We can't wait for our new cohort to begin their golf journey in Year 6 next term!
As we reach the end of our first term, we couldn't be prouder of the incredible progress and pure joy we've seen in our OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) and Forest School sessions!
It has been truly wonderful seeing the children outside, learning more and knowing more about the world around them. From mastering the precise skill of whittling to safely starting fires, the children's engagement and concentration have been absolutely incredible. We've also been thrilled by the creativity and teamwork during lunchtimes, with brilliant den building projects and challenging obstacle courses popping up across the grounds.
A massive well done to all the pupils for embracing outdoor learning with such enthusiasm this term!
Can You Help Our Outdoor Fun Grow?
If you are having a clear-out over the holidays, we would gratefully welcome any donations that could enhance our outdoor play areas and resources! We are particularly looking for:
Toys (especially robust outdoor ones)
Clothing (adult or children's old clothes for dressing up)
Gardening Equipment (small trowels, watering cans, etc.)
Sand Pit Bits (buckets, spades, funnels)
If you have anything you'd like to pass on, please let us know!
Finally, a huge thank you to Mrs Harvey and all the SMSAs for their hard work and dedication in giving these amazing outdoor opportunities to our children. We cannot wait to see what adventures Term 2 has to offer!
Following the success of the recent visit to Bath University by a group of Welton children, the event has been published in the popular FE News online magazine! Click here to read the article which explains how our children have impacted the future of teacher training. Even the article heading makes us feel proud! 'Almost 100 trainee teachers receive climate-inclusive education from ten determined primary school pupils' with words such as 'first-of-its-kind' and 'pioneering' used to describe the event!
We are delighted to share an exciting opportunity for all parents to help us enhance the support we provide for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
Last week, we sent out information about our involvement in a new project focused on improving our SEN support and continuing to enhance our communication and resources for parents.
Your feedback is crucial to the success of this initiative!
Below is a direct link to the Parent Survey:
This is a great opportunity for you to have your voice heard and directly influence how we can make our support even better.
We strongly encourage any parent to complete the questionnaire. The more feedback we receive, the better equipped we will be to make meaningful adjustments to our practice and improve our provision.
**The deadline for completing this survey is Thursday, October 23rd. Please take a few minutes to complete it before then.
Thank you in advance for your support and your invaluable contribution!
Take a look at our class pages below! We will be updating these on the school website in the coming weeks!
We have loved showing prospective parents around this week. It has been great! We will be sharing some open days for next term! Please share these with people you know. The more people, the merrier.
If you need to book your child into wraparound care, please see the information here. https://progressive-sports-bath.classforkids.io/?className=any&venueName=Welton%20Primary%20School
