What a fantastic week we've had at Welton! The theme of respect has been truly evident in our school community, and we've seen it in abundance. It's been wonderful to witness our pupils holding doors open for each other and showing great attitudes to learning in class. It has also been lovely seeing our older children interact and support our new Wrens. It is great to see them being fantastic ambassadors for our school.
This week also saw some fantastic new additions to our curriculum. Our Year 5 pupils had their first session of golf with Tom Snelling, and it was a huge success! We also welcome Mr Kingwell into school who will be running inter house competitions this year. We're excited to announce that every class will get the chance to participate in these wonderful opportunity throughout the year.
We've also officially launched our very own Forest School, this week! This will allow our pupils to explore and learn in a natural environment, and we can't wait to see them getting stuck in over the coming months.
A big thank you to all the parents who attended our 'Meet the Teacher' events this week. It was lovely to see so many of you, and we appreciate you taking the time to connect with your child's teachers. Remember, we are always looking for volunteers to help out with various activities, so please do get in touch if you're interested.
Next week, we would love for you to join us for our phonics workshops. These sessions are a great way to understand how we teach reading and can provide you with useful tips to support your child at home. Details can be found below.
Speaking of our website, our new class pages are now live! Be sure to take a look to see what your children have been up to.
Finally, we wish all of our families a safe and wonderful weekend. We can't wait to see you all on Monday!
We were delighted to welcome a very special visitor to Welton this week! Megan Wright, a former pupil of Welton, came to visit and talk to us about her fantastic new book which has been given 5 star reviews on Amazon! 'In The Trenches' is set in the summer of 1939 and tells the incredible story of Arthur Sutton who is getting ready to be deployed to the trenches, leaving his wife, daughter, parents and farm behind. Megan explained why she chose a diary style for the novel, and spoke about how she was inspired by her family to tell this particular story. We are so proud of Megan to think that her love of reading and writing started at Welton! Her top tip to all of us was to follow our dreams and interests to be who we want to be. Wise words indeed! Megan is about to start a creative writing degree at Birmingham University - we wish her all the very best and can't wait to hear more about her successes in the future.
Forest School is well underway at Welton! The children have been exploring the outdoor environment with great enthusiasm. This week, they enjoyed whittling and using tools to create their own unique shapes from wood. We also saw them getting creative, finding a range of colours in the forest to make beautiful collections of leaves and stones. It's wonderful to see them so engaged and curious in our woodland area. We can't wait to see what next week holds in our forest school.
Next Thursday, we would like to invite our Reception, Year 1 and 2 parents in to take part ina phonics workshop. Parents are welcomed in at 9:00 to come and watch what a phonics lesson looks like and then join Mrs Allen and Mr Lyle in the hall to talk about the importance of phonics and early reading for your children. We can't wait to see all of you there!
As we embark on a new term, it is a great opportunity to see if there any volunteers who would be interested in coming in to our wonderful school and hearing our children read. As you can imagine, the school day is extremely busy and we always do our best to hear children read. If you feel you would be able to give up some time, even an hour or two, to come in and hear children read, we would be extremely grateful. Please speak to the office if you would be interested in this.
Take a look at our class pages below! We will be updating these on the school website in the coming weeks!

At Welton, we believe that effective communication is the key to a strong school community. To help you know who to contact with any questions or concerns, we have created a clear flow chart. This chart is designed to guide you to the right person in the first instance, ensuring your queries are addressed as efficiently as possible. We are all here to help, but sometimes teachers are busy teaching and may not be immediately available. The new system also includes suggested deadlines for us to get back to you, so you know when to expect a response. We hope this new approach will make communication smoother for everyone moving forward.
In addition to the communication flow chart, we will also be adding a calendar to our school website. This will be a central place for you to find all key school dates, including holidays, events, and deadlines. We hope this new feature will help you plan and stay informed throughout the school year.
An important message from the NHS:
Dear Parent/Guardian, Your child’s flu vaccination is now due.
This vaccination is recommended to help protect your child against flu. Flu can be an unpleasant illness and can cause serious complications. Vaccinating your child will also help protect more vulnerable family and friends by preventing the spread of flu.
Please complete the consent form (yes or no) using the following link:
www.bswschoolagedimms.co.uk/Forms/Flu
Please use the school code: WT142941
Please ensure you complete your child’s consent no later than 48 working hours before your school session to ensure your child receives their vaccination. We are visiting your child’s school Welton Primary School on 18 November 2025
Most children are offered a nasal spray vaccine which is a quick, simple and painless spray up the nose. The nasal spray vaccine is the preferred vaccine.
A leaflet explaining the vaccination programme for primary aged children can be accessed at:
Please continue to bring waterproofs in as we are trying to be outside as much as possible. The doors for nursery will open at 8:45 so please wait out by the gate for one of our team to meet you. If your child finishes their session at 1pm, please wait at the KS1 gates ( right hand side of the school building) for the nursery team to bring your child up to you.
This term, keep an eye out as we will be sharing some opportunities for you to join us for some sessions. We cannot wait!
On Wednesday, we were lucky to have Mr Nosworthy - a very experienced guitar player - come in to assembly to demonstrate some of his instruments. Both children and staff were in awe of his ability in guitar and ukulele playing.
Mr Nosworthy, will be offering lessons in guitar or ukulele. These can be 1:1 or in a small group. If we have the demand we can also offer an after school club, this will have a small cost - Please keep an eye out for further information.
Details of lessons and other musical opportunities offered by West of England Music and Arts (WEMA) can be found at the end of our newsletter and here.

One of the most important things you can do to help your child stay safe online is to have ongoing conversations with them. We know this can be a difficult area for many parents to approach, but talking about online safety is crucial for children of all ages.
The NSPCC offers excellent resources for parents to help with these conversations. They have a wealth of information, including age-appropriate conversation starters, top tips, quizzes, and more.
Rather than overwhelming you with all the information at once, we'll be sharing snippets from these resources in our school newsletter. For example, when we cover a specific online safety topic in class with the children, we'll send out information directly related to that topic. This approach makes the information easier to digest and more relevant, making you more likely to read it and, in turn, have those important conversations with your child.
You can find all of these fantastic resources by visiting the NSPCC website HERE.
Well done to all of our wonderful children showing respect this week!
