What a truly fantastic week we've had here at Welton! The attitude of many has been fantastic this week. I've seen some great diary entries, descriptive writing, science and learning from many of our students. They really have been demonstrating great aspiration.
Our discussions about dreams and goals were perfectly timed with World Space Week. It was wonderful to listen to the children share their ambitions, and we were thrilled to hear that so many are reaching for the stars, with astronaut being a hugely popular career choice!
We have also celebrated our Harvest Festival. A huge and heartfelt thank you to all of you for your fabulous donations! The children were amazing as we walked down to Welton Baptist Church and shared what we had been learning about. We have received confirmation that the team at Somer Valley Foodbank would love your donations to support people in the local community. Your kindness will make a real difference to families in our local area, and it's a vital lesson for our children in community and compassion.
Alongside this, we have also met with the school council and our fabulous PTFA this week. The children have been busy thinking about how we can improve the school and also what charities we can support this year. Whilst the children have been doing this, the PTFA have been busy thinking about all the exciting events we can do this year. Watch this space for key dates coming up. If you are looking to help this year, the AGM will be held on the 20th November. Come along to the school at 6:00pm and see how you can help. :)
Attendance
It's been great to see the many of our children and families arriving at school for 8:40. As you all know, good attendance is crucial to a successful education. We want to remind all parents and carers that learning starts promptly at 8:45 AM. If a child doesn't arrive until 8:55 AM or 9:00 AM, they are missing nearly an hour of learning each week. This early window is a key time for us to deliver important interventions, work on individual targets, and ensure all children are settled and ready for the day ahead. Please help us maximise their learning by ensuring they are here on time. Your support in this is hugely appreciated.
Arbor
We have sent an important email communication regarding our Arbor platform this evening. If you are a parent or carer and did not receive this email, please check your spam or junk folder first. If you still cannot find it, please send an email to the office right away with a description of the issue so we can help resolve your account access. Next week, we will be sending an in app message to see if parents and carers get these too. If you haven't downloaded the app, please aim to do this before next Thursday.
Check your bookshelves
It has come to our attention, this week, that a children's book has been identified as having a weblink with explicit content featured within the book. If you have any Spy Pup, Spy Cat or Spy Dog books by Andrew Cope, it may be worth removing it from your child's bookshelf. There is a URL in the book that has been bought by a third party which has been posting inappropriate material. You can find more info here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn7631z8343o
Thank you once again for your continued support in making Welton such a safe and special place to learn and grow.
We wish all our Welton families a lovely and restful weekend!
Mr Lyle and the Welton Team :)
Don't forget to book your Parent/Carers evenings for the week commencing the 20th October. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet with your child's teacher and work together to celebrate and support learning. We are currently at 104/157 students booked. Let's try and make it 100%. Many thanks to those who have popped in and asked us to help you book, if you cannot get in. If this is an issue, please email the office and we will do our best to accommodate times.

Nursery will be providing parent drop ins, in the coming weeks.
On Wednesday, a group from our enthusiastic netball club headed to Downside to compete in a tournament with schools from the local area. Our team were fantastic given that they've only just started to learn the rules of the game and we drew two games and lost two games. Despite this, Elsie managed to get our first point of the afternoon and we had plenty of other really fantastic attempts at scoring too. We've another match on Monday against Farrington Gurney! Well done everyone.
We had a truly joyful and meaningful Harvest celebration this past Thursday as our children visited Welton Baptist Church. The event was a fantastic opportunity for the children to share and understand the importance of harvest through a variety of engaging activities.
From reciting poems to playing "Supermarket Sweep," the children beautifully conveyed the crucial lessons of harvest: understanding the role of farmers, appreciating global trade, and the necessity of tackling food waste.
We were all treated to delightful performances from Wren class, and we were thrilled to welcome our youngest members, the Nursery class, to celebrate with us for the very first time. It brought us immense joy to have our youngest ones come and join the celebration!
We extend a massive thank you to Welton Baptist Church for not only accommodating us but also for their generosity in providing the children with candy floss—a treat they absolutely loved taking home! Take a look at class pages for more photos.
A heartfelt thanks also goes out to all parents for their incredible support in helping us contribute to the Somer Valley Foodbank. Your kindness and generosity will make a real difference in our community.
We're already looking forward to our next big event: the Children in Need Ramble! This will be a wonderful chance to get the children out and about walking around our beautiful town in support of a fantastic cause. More details on this will follow soon!
This October, we are celebrating Black History Month as a whole school - each class has chosen a particularly influential person to research and find out about:

We can't wait to set this up and hopefully make our communication even better.
We are delighted to share an exciting opportunity for all parents to help us enhance the support we provide for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
Last week, we sent out information about our involvement in a new project focused on improving our SEN support and continuing to enhance our communication and resources for parents.
Your feedback is crucial to the success of this initiative!
Below is a direct link to the Parent Survey:
This is a great opportunity for you to have your voice heard and directly influence how we can make our support even better.
We strongly encourage any parent to complete the questionnaire. The more feedback we receive, the better equipped we will be to make meaningful adjustments to our practice and improve our provision.
**The deadline for completing this survey is Thursday, October 23rd. Please take a few minutes to complete it before then.
Thank you in advance for your support and your invaluable contribution!
