It has been another busy and inspiring week at Welton Primary School. This week, it has been fantastic to see the children fully embrace Children’s Mental Health Week. The enthusiasm they have shown in engaging with the activities has been fab, and it’s clear that they are developing a greater understanding of the importance of looking after their mental health. It’s been a joy to watch them immerse themselves in their learning, and we have seen some thoughtful discussions around the theme of resilience and determination.
In particular, the children have shown great enthusiasm while learning about people who inspire and make a difference in the world. From the inspiring environmental efforts of David Attenborough and Greta Thunberg, to the courage and determination of Malala Yousafzai, Amelia Earhart, and Billy Monger, the children have been captivated by their stories. It has been uplifting to see the children reflecting on these role models and discussing how they can also make a positive impact in their own communities.
Mornings have been a real highlight this week. It has been wonderful to see the children taking time to chat with friends, enjoy their toast, and share their thoughts before the day starts. These moments of connection and calm help set a positive tone for the rest of the day and contribute to the children striving to be their best.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful parents for their continued support. We understand that to give our children the best opportunities to shine and be their best selves, we need to work together. Your encouragement, care, and involvement make such a difference, and we are truly grateful for everything you do.
Wishing everyone a lovely weekend ahead!
This week, at Welton, it has been Children's Mental Health Week focusing on the theme of 'Know Yourself, Grow Yourself'. It has been a truly wonderful experience for everyone. Each morning, the children have come together for toast, creating a warm start to their day. We also had a special afternoon all about well being, with activities like storytelling, hand massages, and mindfulness painting helping the children relax and think about what mental well being means to them. It really highlighted how important children’s mental health is at Welton: building connections and supporting each other. It was a time for everyone to reflect and bond, showing how important mental health and community are to us.
Here are some quotes about the week from some of our Year 6 children.
Frankie: “I enjoyed having toast in the morning and also loved the activities we did on Wednesday. My favourite activity was hand massaging and parachute games. I also enjoyed thinking more about my wellbeing and mental health. I feel it important to get out more and I will be keeping that in mind. To spend less time on my phone and take care of myself.”
Aiyana: “My favourite activity this week was doing the parachute games with Miss Plaskitt. I really enjoyed the toast in the morning. It really woke me up and we should definitely be promoting our well being as we move through life.
There are some super resources for families on the Children's Mental Health Week website who this year have teamed up with Disney and the characters from the Inside Out movies. Click https://www.childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk/families/ to find out more!

We are delighted to announce that we will be holding our own Welton Workforce morning on Saturday 1st March between 9-12. If you are able to come along and help improve our outdoor area. We know, that without our school community, we couldn't do half of the things we do and we want to make our school site the very best for our children.
If you could give even an hour, please come along. We will be having bacon sandwiches and spending the morning doing jobs across the school site. Next week, we will be putting together the jobs that need doing. If you are unable to help physically, but could provide a tin of paint or some tools, we would really appreciate it.
Here are the list of jobs we will be looking to complete below:
Paint reception outdoor structures with non slip paint
Roof outdoor classroom
Front of school - refresh and tidy (including wall area by road).
Painting posts on the top playground and classroom.
Clear plants and weeds around the pond.
General weeding and tidying
Painting the fence around nursery
Painting the school gates on either side of the building
Planting flowers in hanging baskets on the front of the school
Remove the shed on the bottom playground
Clear the dinner hall
Sort and tidy the poly tunnel
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
On Tuesday, a group of children took part in a maths challenge organised by the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership Trust. It was great to see them take on a variety of maths challenges that tested them and made them thing. We were incredibly proud of the attitude they showed throughout, demonstrating great collaboration and resilience. We cannot wait for the next one.
On Tuesday 11th March 9am-12pm we are hosting our annual careers morning when we will be inviting volunteers to come and talk about their jobs with the children. If you would be interested in joining us for the morning, please let Mr Snell or the school office know as it would be great to have some of our Welton family join us! You will be required to talk with groups of children about your job and maybe share some pictures or equipment you might use. These sessions are around 35mins long and will repeat through the morning with different groups of children. It's always a really great event and the children really enjoy learning about different jobs! Thank you if you are able to join us!
This week, I am writing with sad, but very exciting news. As you will all be aware we have been blessed with the wonderfulness of Mrs Taylor for over 20 years. Day in, day out she has provided the very best care and attention for all of our children and will have made a difference to so many people within our community.
Although this is a sad day for Welton, and also for Mrs Taylor, I am sure you will join me in thanking her for everything she has done for the school. She will be leaving to enjoy her retirement and, my goodness, she deserves it. Fear not, as she is here until Easter so I am sure we will all get our moment to thank her.
The PTFA met on Wednesday and have created a calendar with all of the upcoming events between now and Christmas next year. Please add them to your diary and keep supporting our wonderful school.
We can't wait for the disco next week.
Many parents will be aware of Twitch, especially if their children are gamers. Owned by Amazon it has become incredibly popular over the years for children to either watch live streams or to live stream themselves. But, in the past, there's been plenty of controversy about the platform, particularly in relation to restrictions that imposed upon streamers. So it's no surprise to see other platforms becoming more popular and one of those platforms is Kick (not to be confused with Kik Messenger).
It was launched in 2022, users should be 13+ and it follows the same process as Twitch where live streamers can make money. However, much of the content on Kick is adult in nature.
Internet Matters has a good article about Kick and it may be useful to read. You can find the article HERE.
Please see below a message from our school nurse, Rachel. If you have any worries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact her. She is fab and will always try to help wherever she can.

Knife Crime Awareness Event for Parents and Carers
The B&NES Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP) have 3 upcoming Parental Knife Crime Awareness events.
Please note these events will now take place on:
o Monday 10th February 2025 at Chew Valley School
These events are aimed at parents and carers who would like to know more about the dangers of knife crime or are concerned that their children are at risk; increasing awareness of key issues surrounding knife crime, empowering you and your children to make informed and positive decisions to stay safe.
You will have the opportunity to hear from a guest speaker with lived experience, who has been personally affected by knife crime, followed by a panel discussion with the opportunity to ask questions. There will also be an opportunity to hear about the support available for children and families in B&NES and view a partnership film on county lines from a B&NES’ perspective.
