Welcome back to what promises to be another bumper term for our children. In a week where we welcomed our newest members to Welton as part of their induction into our school community, it has been a delight to wander around the school and see the excellent work being done.
I have been blown away by some of the handwriting in Kingfisher, the excellent maps in Nightingale, and the awe and wonder as our youngest children discover all about dinosaurs. There has also been some super coordinate work in Kestrel and Hawk, while our eldest children in Eagle Class are already beginning to shine as they start practising for their end-of-year production. It is brilliant to see such a buzz around the school!
It has also been a busy week for trips, with our learners visiting The Roman Baths, Keynsham Recycling Centre, and Root Connections. We are incredibly fortunate to have so many events lined up this term, including an author visit, a professional athlete workshop, and much more.
We are also excited to announce that, from September, we will be hosting a weekly Martial Arts club run by Jamie Woodland's team on Mondays from 3:15pm - 4:15pm. This will focus on teaching our children discipline, respect, and self-defence. Keep an eye out for an initial interest form next week; sessions will be £5 each.
This term is all about changes—whether that means transitional changes as we look ahead to new year groups and schools in September, or updates to our school environment. It is always an exciting time of the year! We cannot wait to see many of you on Wednesday for our Welton Workforce Evening. This will be a brilliant opportunity to begin thinking about our preparations for the rest of this year and into the next. If you can lend a hand, please complete the Google Form here.
Not only this, but we have been busy preparing for all of our wonderful PTFA events. Next week is our annual quiz night, and we look forward to seeing many of you there. This will be followed later in the term by our PTFA Summer Fayre. We rely heavily on parent support to make these a success; whether it is remembering the different non-uniform days or knowing what to donate, we are truly grateful. Please see below for more information on what is happening in the coming weeks.
As always, if you ever have any questions or are unsure of anything, please do not hesitate to contact us or pop into the office. We are always happy to help.
Have a wonderful weekend, and see you on Monday.
Mr Lyle :)
A huge thank you to everyone for joining us for our Sports Day at the end of last term. Everyone in school had a wonderful day, which started with a carousel of activities run by our class teachers and Bath Rugby.
Our annual family picnic was brilliant, and it was great to see so many of our families coming together to enjoy the sunshine—we are incredibly grateful to our PTFA for providing a variety of snacks throughout. This was then topped off by our hugely successful colour run which, as always, reminded us of why our school is so special.
We cannot wait to share with you how much we have raised from the event. Our sincere thanks go to Mrs Berry for running such an excellent day, to the Bath Rugby Foundation for their support, and to our families for sharing it with us. Welton really is a magical place to be!
We are thrilled to announce that children’s author and animator Pete Bailey will be visiting us on the 25th June to share his brand-new sci-fi adventure novel, Keeper of the Earth: Light in the Shadows (perfect for ages 8+).
Pete has an incredible background in animation, having worked on Doctor Who, The Sarah Jane Adventures for the BBC, and with Aardman Animations on The Pirates! movie.
What’s happening on the day?
An Exciting Assembly: The children will watch a video showcasing the book's illustrations, enjoy live readings, and take part in a Q&A session.
Classroom Workshops Year 4 and 5: Interactive sessions featuring age-appropriate readings, drawing demonstrations with tips and tricks, and a fun drawing/writing activity.
How to buy the book & join the 'Keeper Club'
Signed and personalised copies of the book will be available to buy directly from Pete at the school for £9 (cash or card). Alternatively, you can order in advance via his website, and any books ordered after the event will be delivered to the school the following week.
Every book purchase includes an invitation to join the Keeper Club, giving children access to a "top-secret" area of Pete's website packed with bonus chapters, activity sheets, and behind-the-scenes sketches.
To find out more, order a copy, or explore his work, visit www.petebaileybooks.co.uk.
On Monday, our Year 4 children embarked on their annual trip to the Roman Baths to discover what life was like in the Roman times. We were very fortunate to spend the morning looking at real life artefacts and learning about Roman Britain and what the baths were used for. This then was followed by an opportunity to explore the Roman Baths themselves. The children were able to use audioguides to listen to how the baths were designed and how they were used to socialise. The children were fantastic throughout and did the school proud with their impeccable behaviour.
Last Tuesday, Years 4 and 5 visited Keynsham Recycling Centre for a hands-on look at sustainability. The children learned all about the importance of recycling electrical goods and how precious metals like copper are recovered from old circuit boards to be reused. They even got to step into the shoes of the site team to see exactly how recycling is separated. What a fantastic opportunity had by all—well done to our future environmentalists!
But this time for a different cause. Year 6 are in the midst of rehearsing our end of year play and are looking to raise some money to go towards this. They will be running the snack shack every week at break times on Mondays and Fridays throughout this term. Healthy snacks will be on offer, including watermelon, pineapple and berries. Everything will be 50p. Don't forget to bring your coins!
This week some of our Y4/5 Netballers headed up to Norton Hill Primary to play a friendly match. The team have been working really hard on a Monday and it was great to see them moving into spaces to receive the ball. Despite a 2 goal lead in the first round, Amelia persevered and scored two amazing goals to equalise. Norton Hill then shot one final goal before the weather turned against us and we had to call time. This team has put in so much effort this term and we can't wait to see the progress they make as we head into the Autumn term. We are always keen for new members- any child in KS2 is welcome to come and join us on a Monday if they'd like to! Just send a message to the office or let Mrs Berry know!

The Molly Rose Foundation has some wonderful resources for parents including guides and other resources. One of these guides helps families understand who and what may be shaping a child's online world and how these influences can affect mood, confidence and safety.
