Conferences I attended last year:
1.)CISMUN
2.)WISMUN VII
3.)STAMUN 107
4.)RISMUN XVII
5.)THAIMUN XI
My journey through five different Model United Nations conferences - CISMUN, WISMUN VII, STAMUN 107, RISMUN XVII, and THAIMUN XI - has been an incredible experience that pushed me to grow in ways I never expected. Since I've always been passionate about debating and collaborating with others, these conferences were the perfect opportunity for me to shine in my strengths while also discovering areas where I could improve. Each conference threw new challenges my way, forcing me to step up my game in public speaking, making negotiations to form a resolution, and research skills. The intense nature of MUN conferences - with their long days and demanding preparation - tested my dedication. I spent countless hours diving into global issues, crafting position papers, and preparing arguments. The collaborative aspect of MUN was particularly rewarding, as success helps to form alliances and find a middle ground with other delegates to create solid resolutions. One of the most rewarding achievements was being the main submitter for resolutions twice - a role that initially terrified me because of the four-minute speech requirement. As I progressed from one conference to the next, I could feel myself becoming more comfortable with the complex discussions and diplomatic procedures. Additionally, it allowed me to meet many new people and form friendships along the way. Meeting like-minded students from different schools made every conference special. Each MUN experience taught me something new about international issues and opened my eyes to different perspectives. Looking back, MUN wasn't just another extracurricular activity - it was genuinely one of my favorite high school experiences that helped shape who I am today. Not only did it sharpen my public speaking and analytical skills, but it also gave me great experiences and a deeper understanding of how complex our world is.
One of the resolutions where I had the opportunity to be a main submitter as the delegate of Estonia:
2.)International day dance
1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
5: Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively
As a member of the Desi Club, I had the opportunity to participate in our school's International Day dance performance. The journey began with auditions, where I had to showcase my skills to be part of the final performance group. After being selected, I faced the exciting challenge of learning an intricate choreography that incorporated 3-4 different songs, all within a tight one-week timeline.
The intensive practice schedule tested my commitment, as I worked to master multiple transitions while maintaining the authenticity of Indian dance forms. Despite the time pressure, the supportive environment helped me push through the challenging moments, especially when certain steps seemed difficult to grasp. Working alongside others who shared the same goal made the learning process both enjoyable and motivating.
Learning and performing such a complex routine within a week was demanding, but our shared dedication helped us achieve our goal. The final performance was a proud moment, as I got to showcase my hard work and represent Indian culture to our school community. This experience not only improved my dance skills but also taught me valuable lessons about perseverance and teamwork. Looking back, while the preparation was intense, the satisfaction of delivering a successful performance made every challenging moment worthwhile. It was truly a rewarding experience that pushed me to improve my skills, demonstrate my commitment, and grow as a performer.
3.)ISB Summit Conference
2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
From February 16th to 18th, I attended the Summit conference at International School Bangkok(ISB) along with some of my classmates. The three-day event brought together students from various international schools, focusing on cultural exchange and service projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Each day had a different focus which kept the conference engaging and informative. On the first day, we explored Thai culture through various activities. The second day involved discussions about different countries' economies, particularly looking at worker treatment and wage differences. On the final day, we were split into groups based on different SDGs. I worked with SDG 6, which focuses on clean water and sanitation. My group discussed water filtration systems and access to clean water, and we had to present our ideas for solving these issues.
One of the best parts of the conference was meeting students from other international schools. Working together on projects and sharing different perspectives helped me understand global issues better. Even though we only had three days, I made some new connections and learned a lot about how different schools approach similar problems. The conference showed me how students from different backgrounds can work together on important global issues while learning from each other.
