Orange Shirt Day
Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, to honor the victims and survivors of the residential school system. St. James recognized this day on September 29th with a ceremony and smudge led by a Metis knowledge keeper.
Our council's worked together to draw orange shirts outside and fill them with words of things that are important to them. They were then pressure washed away to symbolize Indigenous people's identity's being taken from them. In their place, were the words "Moving Forward Together" were written, in the hopes that we will be able to move forward with our efforts of reconciliation, and make sure we never repeat our past mistakes.
