What is the progression of the program across the four years?

Grade 9 and 10 would involve single performance Physical Education course with focus on athletic enhancement in a variety of skill areas to support given sport or activity. . There would be a service leadership team they would be involved in to support school community events (eg. fundraising, school outreach, community connections. We would call this program LEAP Athletics In Action. We would hope to get a Coaching certification completed in preparation for potential Cooperative Education opportunities (eg. Paid Coop in the Summer working for Onside Sports or In School Coop working in elementary PHE classes) Grade 11 year would include a potential credit package where they take sport specific courses which give leadership opportunities (eg. PAL3O) Grade 12 would focus on career planning with two specific courses tied to the program- Sport Leadership and Event Management (Course 1) and Fitness Leadership (Course 2)

What happens if the student changes their sport?

Students can certainly change their sport throughout the course of the program. Our focus once they have joined the program is to develop characters, skills and post secondary options as they proceed through the course.

Will there be links between the high school sports and the program?

We hope to have significant links between the program and the high school sports. For instance, one idea is to provide sport specific training opportunities as part of a package with a training organization that we partner in the program (eg. IBSA Basketball for Basketball skill enhancement). This is all part of the brainstorming in evolving the program. We will be having a community engagement process to discuss ways our program can evolve.

Is the high school team considered a high performance activity?

We would consider our teams a high performance activity.

Can Non Catholic students register for LEAP?
