Gr 11-12 | 6 Credits | Year-Long | 5x per Cycle
AP Economics is a full-year course that covers both microeconomics and macroeconomics. Microeconomics gives students a thorough understanding of the principles of economics that apply to the functions of individual decision makers, both consumers and producers, within the economic system. Primary emphasis is placed on the nature and functions of product markets and includes the study of factor markets and of the role of government in promoting greater efficiency and equity in the economy. Macroeconomics gives students a thorough understanding of the principles of economics that apply to an economic system as a whole. The macro part of the course places particular emphasis on the study of national income and price-level determination and also develops students’ familiarity with economic performance measure, the financial sector, stabilization policies, economic growth, and international economics. The pace of the course requires a significant amount of independent study. The course will prepare students for analyzing and applying the economic concepts covered and will prepare them for the Advanced Placement Microeconomics and Macroeconomics exams. The course is available to students in Grade 11 and Grade 12; however, students in Grade 12 will be given preference over students in Grade 11.
