Wellesley Public Schools provides full-time nursing services at all schools. Our nurses are available to meet with parents and guardians to discuss any healthcare needs for their children. To speak with your school nurse, please call the school's main office and ask to speak with the school nurse. You may also message your nurse via the Health Portal to communicate any health information related to your child.
**Please note: To ensure your child's confidentiality, kindly utilize the Health Portal for any information related to specific student matters, as nurses are unable to respond to emails that include such details.
All Wellesley school nurses hold valid nursing licenses in Massachusetts and are certified by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Their responsibilities include:
Assessing and addressing the health needs of all students
Monitoring and administering medications and medical procedures as directed by a student’s primary care provider or specialist
Providing first aid and emergency care
Identifying health related barriers to learning, and collaborates with teachers to accommodate students with special health care needs
Collaborating with school-based teams to promote safe and healthy environments
Assisting students and families in accessing primary medical care and health insurance
Overseeing the monitoring of communicable diseases
You can support the school nurse in caring for your child by:
Informing the nurse about any health conditions your child has (such as diabetes, asthma, or seizure disorders) or any nursing services required at school.
Communicating any changes in medication or health needs to the nurse.
Providing a copy of your child’s most recent physical examination, including all up-to-date immunizations (the exam must be within the last 12 months).
Keeping your child’s emergency contact information current at the school to ensure we can reach you when needed.
Giving written permission for the nurse to communicate with your child’s healthcare provider regarding their health care needs.
School nursing has evolved over the years with the focus on building strong partnerships with students, parents and teachers. Today, more children come to school with medical, social and emotional challenges. The school nurses are available to collaborate with students, parents and educational team to develop and support an individualized plan of care in order to support the student in the classroom.
