Drawing Lewis Structures (van Geel, 9:26)
-How to draw the dot structure for a molecular compound. This skill is the basis for the next two chapters. Make sure you have a firm grasp on how to do this.
Drawing 3D Structures (van Geel, 8:59)
-How to determine the shape of a molecule from its Lewis structure. Uses VSEPR theory (Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion)
Determining Bond and Molecular Polarity (van Geel, 8:17)
-How to determine if a bond is nonpolar, polar or ionic. How to determine if a molecule is polar or nonpolar.
(Note: Also sources vary, consider an electronegativity difference between 0 and 0.4 to be nonpolar covalent, 0.4 to 1.7 to be polar covalent, and over 1.7 to be ionic. In addition, any molecule that contains only nonpolar bonds must be a nonpolar molecule)
