1. Independent Reading - at least 30 minutes each day. Be sure to stop at a good stopping point (like the end of a chapter) instead of stopping at exactly 30 minutes. Enjoy having time this week to read your own independent choice books. Be sure to read and finish one book at a time. Read books that are a good level for you - you can read and understand well but the content, structure and/or vocabulary give you plenty to think about/ learn.
Record in your Independent Reading Log (minimum at home: 4 x 30 minutes this week).
2. Math Student Activity Book
Due Wednesday, October 29 - pages 90 and 91-92
Due Friday, October 31 - pages 95 and 99
For review of concepts and strategies to help you with the homework, go to Math Words and Ideas. For extra practice of games we've been playing in class, go to Investigations Games.
3. Writing Journal Entry - due Thursday, October 30
Review - Write a review of your book club book.
Put the date and a title at the top of a new double-page spread.
Plan on the left-hand page. Make a list of what you liked/ didn't like about the book.
Write your review on the right-hand page.
Put how many stars you would you give it from 1 (didn't like it at all) to 5 (loved it) at the top of the page.
Include the title and author and write your review so that someone who has not read the book can understand what you are saying.
Explain how you decided on the stars by sharing what you thought was good about the book and, if you gave less than 5 stars, how you wish the book was different.
Fill the page (or more)!
4. Dreambox
Complete at least 5 lessons this week. Always do some of the assigned lessons (marked with a little grid).

Make a story mountain on the left-hand page. Include the external and internal story.
Write your story on the right-hand page. Use strong description, inner thoughts and action so the reader has a mental movie in their mind. Fill the page (or more)!

Writing Journal Entry - due Thursday, Sept. 18
Make lists
Use a double-page spread in your notebook to make annotated lists of your best and worst moments. That means make one list on each page and write a sentence about each idea on your list. Include at least 5 ideas total. (my example for a worst moment - I got lost on a hike with my friend Heidi when suddenly instead of a trail of cairns to follow, there were cairns everywhere.)
