Margaret Ferguson celebrated the founding of the campus Botanic Gardens with this publication in 1925, describing the development of the original greenhouses as well as the Alexandra Botanic Garden and Hunnewell Arboretum. Writing as Chair of the Botany Department, she emphasized the educational value of these botanical resources, and famously vowed that the department would "endeavor to form a center that shall be of interest to all."
Kristina Jones, inspired by Margaret Ferguson's vision and writings, and by the recent evolution of botanic gardens in general and at Wellesley in particular, here recounts highlights of the history and current state of the WCBG as part of the centennial celebration in 2025.
