About the Pink Guide

I wrote this guide for my students in 2005, while I was a graduate student teaching assistant in the MIT Philosophy department. Thanks to those students and to our professor, Sally Haslanger, for their support. Fellow MIT grad student (and now fellow professor) Tom Dougherty provided helpful advice and encouraged me to get the guide online in 2014. The sections on reading and writing philosophy papers draw on Jim Pryor's excellent suggestions, available here and here. Thanks to Julia de Bres for digitizing the illustrations in 2024.

If you like your writing advice in the form of sex advice, here's the 2017 2.0.

Happy philosophizing!
