Data Science, Bioinformatics Concentration major
My name is Alice Zhang, and I am a Data Science, Bioinformatics Concentration major in the class of 2025.
My senior thesis was on the Wellesley-Mayo Microbiome project from 2022, advised by Professor Pattanayak and Professor Tetel. I cleaned collected lifestyle factors (menstruation, daily nutrition, etc.) and gut and vaginal microbiome data from Wellesley College participants. After graduation, I will be going to Carnegie Mellon University for a PhD in Statistics and working as a 2025 Cohort TIME fellow.
In addition to my thesis, I conduct research in the Kellis lab at MIT, where I develop inclusive polygenic risk score models (iPGS) and the systematic application to brain MRI-derived traits; the Youth, Media & Wellbeing lab at the Wellesley Centers for Women, where I primarily work on statistical analyses for the BOBA project and LGBTQ+ adolescent research; and the Young Breast Cancer Survivors (YBCS) research project at Florida Atlantic University, where I conduct interviews and statistical analyses on the unique challenges faced by young breast cancer survivors.Â
In my free time, I compete with the Wellesley Archery team, tutor in the mathematics department and writing program, and am president of SIDI, the data science org on campus.
