Hi! My name is Helena, and I’m majoring in Psychology and Anthropology.
I am currently a research student in the Quantitative Analysis Institute, working with Professor Pattanayak. In Spring 2025, in collaboration with the Tetel lab, I assisted with the initial cleaning of fungal microbiome data, and during Summer 2025 I expanded this work by exploring the relationships between the gut and vaginal microbiomes, as well as examining how antidepressant use may influence microbial composition. I’ve learnt so much about how microbiomes in these sites may connect to both physical and mental health.
Beyond this lab, I work as a research assistant in Professor Chen’s Culture, Family, and Development Lab, where I conduct statistical analyses and interviews. Previously, I was a research assistant at the Family Resilience and Child Development (FRCD) Lab at UMass Chan Medical School, where I supported Dr. Su with data cleaning and early model development.
Outside of research, I enjoy cooking, bouldering, petting cats, napping, and exploring cities on foot.
