Who could participate?

Researchers were eligible to participate if they had submitted at least one paper to a peer-reviewed journal for publication and received at least one editor decision letter in the past five years.

What personal information was collected, and how is the anonymity of participants protected?

We are committed to protecting the identity of survey participants. All data is kept strictly confidential. No identifiable data has been or will be made publicly available, and all publicized results are based on aggregated responses. Any document that connects identifying information to the survey responses is password-protected and accessible only to the research team. Since the study is completed, all identifiers have been deleted, and the data have been anonymized.

Did this study receive IRB approval?

Yes, this study has been approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Brandeis University (Approval # ). If you wish to raise any concerns about this study, please email irb@brandeis.edu. (Please note that Wellesley College contracts with Brandeis University for Institutional Review Board (IRB) services).

This research has not been commissioned by any journal, publisher, association, or private firm. It is being conducted in a fully independent manner.

How are researchers selected to be contacted?

The email list for this survey was constructed from public contact emails appearing on at least one research paper published in an academic journal since the year 2000 and/or was listed on a public faculty/department website.
