Mr. Scott Schlup

Middle School Honor Band Director

Scott Schlup is experiencing semi-retired life, following his 32 years of teaching – 16 years at Lesher Middle School and 16 years at Rocky Mountain High School. Scott continues to work internationally at various summer music camps that have included the LeBam Summer International Band Camp in Beirut, Lebanon and the International Orchestra Camp held bi-annually in Lüchow, Germany. Scott is a member of the staff for the Colorado Ambassadors of Music which takes over 450 students to Europe every-other summer to perform concerts in five different European countries. Scott is currently serving as Co-chair of the Colorado All-State High School Band, and continues to serve as a mentor for younger teachers around the state and as a consultant in the Poudre School district.


Scott is a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado (Bachelors 1990, masters 1997), where he holds degrees in both music education and music performance. In 1997, Scott received the Deans Citation for Academic Excellence from the University of Northern Colorado, and in 1995 Scott was recognized as a Distinguished Teacher of the year in the Poudre School District. Scott also received a Citation of Excellence from the National Bandmasters Association in 2015.


Scott performs on trumpet in the Fort Collins Wind Symphony and the Exquisite Brass Quintet. Scott is a member of the National Association for Music Education, Colorado Bandmasters Association and Phi Beta Mu honorary band fraternity. In his free time, Scott enjoys nature photography, biking and gardening.

Dr. Cheldon Williams

High School Honor Band Director


Dr. Cheldon Williams holds the positions of Associate Director of Bands and the Director of Athletic Bands at West Virginia University. Additionally, Williams teaches Music Arranging for Public School Groups as part of the undergraduate music education curriculum. Prior to his appointment at W.V.U., Williams earned his Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music Education degrees from Florida State University in 2004 and 2014, served as Associate Director of Bands at New Mexico State University in 2016, and earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at The University of Texas at Austin in 2020. 


Dr. Williams works as a guest clinician and adjudicator for middle and high school bands, orchestras, and color guards across the United States. His research involves providing developing teachers and directors with the tools to assess the quality of ensemble music performance. The research findings were presented at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic and at other national and international music educators’ conferences. Williams was also a recent contributor to the Vol. 12 edition of Teaching Music Through Performance in Band. Moreover, Williams is currently arranging and transcribing music for the wind band medium with the goal of introducing musicians to composers who have been historically underrepresented due to their race or gender with a project titled the Rediscovery Series. Under distribution through Murphy Music Press, his arrangements have been performed at the University of Texas at Austin and by the West Virginia University Symphonic Band. 


Dr. Williams is a former member of the Texas Music Educators Association, New Mexico Music Educators Association, Florida Bandmasters Association, Florida Music Education Association, Florida Orchestra Association, Broward Music Educators Association, and a current member of the West Virginia Music Educators Association, and the National Association for Music Education.
