As we turn our calendars to November and close the book on our second month of school, I hope this message finds you well. While these are trying times worldwide, this season brings the opportunity to reflect on the things we are thankful for in our own lives. I am thankful for our staff... from our teachers who work nonstop to keep our students learning, to the support personnel greeting children as they move from class to class, LMS is full of adults who care deeply about our children. While it is taking some time for all of us to readjust to life in school again, I am thankful to be surrounded by a building full of people who are dedicated to our kids and community. And, perhaps most importantly, I'm so grateful for each and every one of your children and their presence here at LMS. Between their smiles in the halls, and their excitement to share about what they are learning or how they feel about the school lunch, they bring such joy to my day. Thank you for entrusting their care to us each day.
Finally, as we move into the winter months and the holidays, we know that even in the best of times, this can be a challenging season for many of our families. Please reach out if there is anything we can do to support you and your student. I encourage you to connect with your child's counselor as a first contact if he/she is in need of additional emotional support. They may also be able to help you connect to community resources to help with basic needs such as food or winter clothing. We hope that Leman Middle School is a light for your family this season.
Sincerely,
Maggie Lay
Principal
This year, our theme focuses on "igniting" the fire and desire to learn inside each and every student. So many examples of this exist in the classrooms and hallways of LMS . Each month we will highlight one example to share with the larger community! Check out the great work of of one class below!
Ms. Montgomery brings fractions to life using visual models and manipulatives. She works everyday to make math fun and interactive for her students. She is igniting and instilling a love of learning in her mathematicians!

How many years have you been in education?
My first job in education was in 1996. I worked at Trinity, here in town, back when it was still a private school.
What is one interesting fact about yourself that someone may not know?
I served in the United States Marine Corps from 1990 to 1994. I was stationed in California, Georgia, and also spent a year in Japan.
What is one food you refuse to eat? What is one thing you eat often?
I do not ever, ever, ever eat coleslaw. I do eat ice cream every single day. I also have acquired a taste for burgers.
What do you love most about LMS?
Hands down, my favorite part of LMS is the children. I am so lucky to have a job to come to everyday that doesn't feel like a job. It's just simply the place I want to be.
