Depression is the feeling of being sad, lonely, low, anxious or stressed. Most people feel these emotions throughout their life but if the feelings persist for more than a couple of weeks to the extent that it affects your everyday life and prevents you from doing things you would normally do, it is called depression.
Symptoms of depression include not wanting to do things you previously enjoyed, not wanting to meet friends or avoiding situations, sleeping more or less than normal, eating more or less than normal, feeling irritable, angry, upset, miserable or lonely, feeling hopeless, being self critical, maybe wanting to self harm.
If you are experiencing symptoms of depression you should seek help from a counsellor, GP or a trusted adult.
