Cities often face challenges with blighted or dilapidated properties, which can lead to decreased property values, increased crime, and a negative impact on community aesthetics. To address these issues, cities may take the following steps:
1. **Identification**:
- Conduct surveys or inspections to identify blighted properties.
- Utilize complaints from residents or neighborhood associations.
- Use data analytics and mapping tools to track and visualize troubled areas.
2. **Legal Framework**:
- After identifying property and inviting property owner to work with City, the City employs the State law to abate, address and ameliorate blighted, dilapidated properties
3. **Collaboration**:
- Partner with local community organizations and residents to prioritize areas for
intervention.
4. **Remediation and Redevelopment**:
- Property owners who partner with the City to bring their property into a rehabilitated
state avoid intimidating, timely and costly Court proceedings.
6. **Legal Action**:
- Pursue legal action against non-compliant property owners as a last resort.
- Utilize State law to gain property compliance as to Blight and dilapidation remediation
7. **Monitoring and Feedback**:
- Set up ongoing monitoring systems to prevent future dilapidation.
- Involve community feedback in decision-making processes.
Overall, addressing blighted properties requires a multi-faceted approach that combines regulatory measures, community engagement, and creative redevelopment strategies.
