School-Wide Enrichment (K-6)
School-wide enrichment opportunities are posted on the website and are maintained and monitored by the District Gifted and Talented Specialist. This site offers monthly math challenges, journal prompts, brainteasers, STEM and LEGO challenges, ELA challenges, social-emotional learning, contests, and more!
Classroom-Based Differentiation (K-6)
Teachers maximize learning potential by engaging students in rigorous activities to extend the grade-level curriculum to maximize student learning outcomes. Classroom teachers use a variety of resources for students who exhibit strong proficiency in a given area. They are trained to meet students’ individual needs and consult and collaborate with the Gifted and Talented Specialist to challenge students further within the classroom as appropriate.
Individualized Enrichment Support Plan (IESP)
As required by the state of NJ, students who show the potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to peers of the same age are provided with appropriate instructional adaptations and educational services. All K-6 students are screened using multiple measures to determine the need for regular enrichment services in math and/or language arts. If indicated by data, classroom teachers will modify curriculum content, process and assignments to meet the individualized needs of their students. This IESP will be a tailored guide for teachers engaging students with challenging material and projects that enhance their learning experience. It will lay out specific goals, strategies, and resources to foster intellectual growth and personal development. The classroom teacher will provide this instruction in consultation with the Gifted and Talented Specialist.
*Students in Grades K-2 who are performing above grade level and show a remarkably high level of cognitive aptitude and achievement will be offered two monthly 30-minute sessions with the Gifted and Talented Specialist for IESP customization and facilitation.
Grade 3 & 4 Gifted and Talented Pullout Program
Students who meet the established criteria will participate in twice weekly pullout sessions for 1 hour each conducted by the G&T specialist. These students will engage in rigorous academic activities centered around problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication.
Grades 5-6 Gifted and Talented Program
Previously identified students who met multiple measures demonstrating that they perform at a remarkably high level of accomplishment compared to peers of the same age will continue looping with their grade-level peers in the identified G&T class in grades 4, 5, and 6.
