"God Bless America"

composed by Erving Berlin

"While the storm clouds gather

far across the sea,

Let us swear allegiance

to a land that's free.

Let us all be grateful

for a land so fair,

As we raise our voices

in a solemn prayer:

God bless America, land that I love,

Stand beside her and guide her

Through the night with a light from above.

From the mountains, to the prairies,

To the oceans white with foam,

God bless America,

My home sweet home,

God bless America,

My home sweet home.”

Lyrics:

Love is something if you give it away, Give it away, give it away.

Love is something if you give it away, You end up having more.

It's just like a magic penny, Hold it tight and you won't have any.

Lend it, spend it, and you'll have so many They'll roll all over the floor.

For love is something if you give it away, Give it away, give it away.

Love is something if you give it away, You end up having more.

Money's dandy and we like to use it,  But love is better if you don't refuse it.

It's a treasure and you'll never lose it Unless you lock up your door.

For love is something if you give it away, Give it away, give it away.

Love is something if you give it away, You end up having more.

So let's go dancing till the break of day, And if there's a piper, we can pay.

For love is something if you give it away, You end up having more.

For love is something if you give it away, Give it away, give it away.

Love is something if you give it away, You end up having more,

You end up having more, You end up having more.

"The Star Spangled Banner" (Vocal & Instrumental):

"The Star Spangled Banner" (Instrumental):

"THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER"

Lyrics by Francis Scott Key

Music by John Stafford Smith

Oh, say can you see,

By the dawn's early light,

What so proudly we hailed

At the twilight's last gleaming?

Whose broad stripes and bright stars,

Through the perilous fight,

O'er the ramparts we watched,

Were so gallantly streaming?

And the rockets' red glare,

The bombs bursting in air,

Gave proof through the night

That our flag was still there

O say, does that Star-Spangled Banner yet wave

O'er the land of the free

And the home of the brave!

THE HISTORY OF "THE STAR-SPANGLED BANNER"

PK-K

1-2G

The Story Behind The Lyrics: It’s a song every American has heard countless times – and can probably recite by heart. But how much do you really know about our national anthem? Like so many famous songs of yore, "The Star-Spangled Banner" started as a poem, called “The Defence of Fort McHenry.” It was written by Francis Scott Key on September 14th, 1814 during the War of 1812. The stanzas recount the Battle of Baltimore, a days-long siege between British and American forces.

The poem was set by him to the melody of the English song, “To Anacreon in Heaven,” which was composed in the late 1700s by a man named John Stafford Smith. The song was linked to the Anacreontic Society, which was an amateur musician’s and singer’s club named after the Greek poet Anacreon.

“The Star-Spangled Banner” wasn’t actually adopted as the official anthem of the United States until 1931, though it was already popular and had already been used by several American institutions by then.

DWS Concert Chorus Auditions:

Dear Parents/Guardians in Grades 1-2,

Attached below you will find a choir consent form and/or the link to the form that has to be filled out, signed, and returned to Mister Romano ASAP for the students that are interested, love music, and have a true desire to try out for the 2022-23 DWS Concert Chorus:

The auditions will take place after our winter break. The student volunteers have to perform a song, a cappella, all on their own in front of their peers. The songs entitled, “The Star-Spangled Banner,” is required for first and second grade students.

There is always an overwhelming number of students that audition for the ensemble. Please remember that many students will not be selected because the choral group consists of only forty students because this size is ideal for performances. All of the participants are congratulated in advance for trying out, practicing, showing their courage, and for being a true performer.

The students who are selected to the chorus need sign the Media Release Form because district and school performances will be recorded and pictures will be taken.  They also will have to make up any classroom work missed during rehearsals which are once per week. The students have to maintain good grades and have an excellent attendance record for all performances and practices during school. The members must wear the proper attire to all of the concerts: plain white tops/shirts, black pants/skirts, dark shoes, and no sneakers, please. Mindfulness and Gratitude always my friends!

Respectfully,

Mister Romano, Piero

Memories

Light the corners of my mind

Misty watercolor memories

Of the way we were

Scattered pictures

Of the smiles we left behind

Smiles we gave to one another

For the way we were

Can it be that it was all so simple then?

Or has time re-written every line?

If we had the chance to do it all again

Tell me, would we?

Could we?

Memories

May be beautiful and yet

What's too painful to remember

We simply to choose to forget

So it's the laughter

We will remember

Whenever we remember

The way we were

The way we were

“A Whole New World”

Tim Rice / Alan Menken

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Il-9TTNtmI

I can show you the world

Shining, shimmering, splendid

Tell me, princess, now when did

You last let your heart decide?

I can open your eyes

Take you wonder by wonder

Over, sideways and under

On a magic carpet ride

A whole new world

A new fantastic point of view

No one to tell us no

Or where to go

Or say we're only dreaming

A whole new world

A dazzling place I never knew

But when I'm way up here

It's crystal clear

That now I'm in a whole new world with you

Unbelievable sights

Indescribable feeling

Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling

Through an endless diamond sky

A whole new world

A hundred thousand things to see

I'm like a shooting star

I've come so far

I can't go back.

I’m in a whole new world

With new horizons to pursue

I'll chase them anywhere

There's time to spare

Let me share this whole new world with you

A whole new world

That's where we'll be

A thrilling chase

A wondrous place

                     For you and me

Oh, oh, oh, oh, ohh…

It must have been cold there in my shadow

To never have sunlight on your face___

You were content to let me shine, that's your way

You always walked a step behind___

So I was the one with all the glory___

While you were the one with all the strength___

A beautiful face without a name for so long

A beautiful smile to hide the pain___

Did you ever know that you're my hero___

And everything I would like to be?___

I can fly higher than an eagle,___

‘Cause you are the wind beneath my wings.___

It might have appeared to go unnoticed___

But I've got it all here in my heart___

I want you to know I know the truth,

of course I know it___

I would be nothing without you___

Did you ever know that you're my hero,___

And everything I wish I could be?___

I could fly higher than an eagle,___

For you are the wind beneath my wings

Did you ever know that you're my hero,___

You're everything, everything I wish I could be?___

Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle,___

'Cause you are the wind___

 beneath my wings.___

Fly,___ fly,__fly___away, you let me fly so high___

“How Far I’ll Go”

Songwriters: Lin-manuel Miranda

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPAbx5kgCJo

I've been staring at the edge of the water

'Long as I can remember

Never really knowing why

I wish I could be the perfect daughter

But I come back to the water

No matter how hard I try

Every turn I take, Every trail I track

Every path I make, Every road leads back

To the place I know where I cannot go Where I long to be

See the line where the sky meets the sea? It calls me

And no one knows, How far it goes___

If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me, One day I'll know

If I go, there's just no telling how far I'll go___

I know everybody on this island

Seems so happy on this island

Everything is by design

I know everybody on this island

Has a role on this island

So maybe I can roll with mine

I can lead with pride, I can make us strong

I'll be satisfied if I play along, But the voice inside sings a different song

What is wrong with me?___

See the light as it shines on the sea? It's blinding

But no one knows, How deep it goes___

And it seems like it's calling out to me So come find me

And let me know, What's beyond that line? Will I cross that line?

See the line where the sky meets the sea? It calls me

And no one knows, How far it goes___

If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me

One day I'll know,___ How far I'll go___

Can’t Stop The Feeling”

***I got this feelin' inside my bones

It goes electric, wavy when I turn it on

All through my city, all through my home

We're flyin' up, no ceilin', when we in our zone

I got that sunshine in my pocket

Got that good soul in my feet

I feel that hot blood in my body when it drops (ooh)

I can't take my eyes up off it, movin' so phenomenally

Room on lock, the way we rock it, so don't stop

And under the lights when everything goes

Nowhere to hide when I'm gettin' you close

When we move, well, you already know

So just imagine, just imagine, just imagine

Nothin' I can see but you

When you dance, dance, dance

Feel a good, good creepin' up on you

So just dance, dance, dance, come on

All those things I shouldn't do

But you dance, dance, dance

And ain't nobody leavin' soon, so keep dancin'

I can't stop the feelin'

So just dance, dance, dance

I can't stop the feelin'

So just dance, dance, dance, come on

***Ooh, it's something magical

It's in the air, it's in my blood, it's rushin' on (rushin' on)

I don't need no reason, don't need control

I fly so high, no ceiling, when I'm in my zone

'Cause I got that sunshine in my pocket

Got that good soul in my feet

I feel that hot blood in my body when it drops (ooh)

I can't take my eyes up off it, moving so phenomenally
