Dr. DeStefano is the Director of Academic Programs and Student Achievement for the Weehawken Township School District. He has been an educator for 18 years, and this is his 6th year as an administrator at Weehawken High School. He received his bachelor's degree in history from Franklin & Marshall College, and he earned his master's degree in educational leadership from Montclair State University. In 2022, he defended his dissertation, "How High School Students in Northern New Jersey Perceive School Safety in a Post-Columbine World," and graduated from Saint Peter's University with his educational doctorate. He holds four professional certificates issued by the Department of Education. Dr. DeStefano has taught at Roxbury High School (Succasunna), Readington Middle School (Whitehouse Station), and Christopher Columbus Middle School (Clifton), where he also served as a dean of discipline for three years. Additionally, he has taught grades 9-12 in summer school history and English courses for the Passaic County Educational Services Commission.
Dr. DeStefano has had many leadership positions throughout his career. In Weehawken, he has previously served as dean of students, supervisor of athletics, assistant principal of WHS, and acting principal of TRS. He is also the president of the Weehawken Administrators Association and the treasurer for the Weehawken Education Foundation. In Clifton, he developed the district social studies benchmark exams that are given to all middle school students district-wide. He was also the Chairman of the Bullying Prevention Committee, the Recording Secretary of the I&RS Team, and the Chess Club Advisor. Dr. DeStefano has served as the head football coach at Bogota High School and Weehawken High School, the head basketball coach at Christopher Columbus Middle School, and the head baseball coach as Readington Middle School.
