Fun Facts about hummingbirds They are the smallest migrating bird. The name, hummingbird, comes from the humming noise their wings make as they beat so fast. Hummingbirds are the only birds that can fly backwards. Hummingbirds have no sense of smell. The average weight of a hummingbird is less than a nickel. Their tiny legs are only used for perching and moving sideways while perched. Don’t judge them by their size as hummingbirds have speed and stamina. They have been clocked in direct flights at about 30 mph and in courtship dives at 45 mph. Why so many facts about hummingbirds? Because there are so many in my yard! Feel Good Phrase: It's June!

Have a wonderful weekend! Stay safe and healthy!
A Principal’s Reflection……
As I sit here in my new office, the dining room, at 4:40am, wide awake, I can’t help but reflect on the two weeks gone by. What I once knew as normal is no longer normal. I spent my entire day, yesterday, in Google Hangouts with teachers and administrators; discussing all sorts of topics as we face being in this new “normal” until April 17.
Today we celebrate “Super Hero Day”! We appreciate all the first responders and essential workers that are there putting themselves at risk for the better good of humanity. So much has changed in these past two weeks. It is unprecedented. It is a global crisis that has put our health and financial well-being at risk. We thank those who are still out there helping those in need!
I also have to commend my staff and faculty for the AMAZING JOB they have done with the new platform of virtual learning that took place! Yes, there was technology at Webster. It was used for blended learning, differentiated learning, and as an additional resource for learning. But, never did we imagine that it would become the vehicle for learning.
Teachers have been working very hard during this time! They are collaborating on a daily basis with their grade level colleagues preparing uniform and engaging lessons. They are looking for different ways to make lessons exciting and fun. Many districts utilized “unused snow days”. Our teachers prepared on their own time in the short time they had.
Our teachers and staff are all faced with the same situation at home as our Weehawken families are.
Our teachers have children at home that they, too, must juggle their online learning as they work from home. Their spouses or significant others are also home. Some teachers have toddlers and young babies home who don’t understand that “mommy or daddy” have a Google Hangout when they are hungry, tired or going stir crazy. They want that attention NOW. We are all being pulled in all directions. Our teachers and staff are worried about their extended family’s well-being, the financial burdens they may face, the uncertainty of the future and what it holds. I realize that “Wee are all in this together!”
Our students, parents, teachers, administrators, community leaders, THE WORLD, we are all going through this together. It’s not the time to criticize. It’s the time to realize that we are all doing our BEST! It won’t be perfect. We won’t have all the answers. But considering the circumstances, we are giving it our ALL! “Wee are all in this together!” It shall pass!
Thank you to my amazing staff for your hard work! Thank you, parents and students, for adjusting to this new “REAL”. And my thanks to those out there - It is Super Hero Day! How lucky we are to have so many in our lives- school, home and community! Stay Safe, healthy and make the best of the weekend! Remember: “Wee are in this together”.
