THE DOCTOR

Doctor originated from the latin verb, "docēre ," which meant 'to teach.'

Dr. Hunter Townsend, D.C.

Dr. Hunter was born and raised in a small lakeside town in West Michigan. He grew up hanging out on the beach, sailing and enjoying a Midwest paradise.

Growing up an only child, Dr. Hunter discovered his own path through year round sports and outdoor activities. Having a loving supportive family where a solid foundation, morals and a love for all people was created.

Understanding his love for people, he wanted to know more. With his athletic background and lively personality, he was bound for a career in service. Knowing from an early age, Dr. Hunter wanted to be a chiropractor. Having family influences and mentors within the chiropractic field he was blessed to live a life with limited sick days and endless opportunity to test his body to the limits.

This ensued the question of, "what would his life be like if he hadn't been adjusted early on. Thus began the journey to discovering and understanding the self healing, self regulating organism called the human body.

Choosing a path of Exercise Science and Kinesiology, Dr Hunter furthered his understanding of the human body through courses in Anatomy and Physiology where he became a gross lab assistant. This decision created the realization of how every person is so very different as well as his love for teaching those around him about the body.

Palmer College of Chiropractic

The Fountainhead of Chiropractic

Davenport, Iowa

Taking on both the remaining courses to finish his undergraduate Bachelors of Science, Dr. Hunter enrolled into the Doctor of Chiropractic graduate program at the fountainhead of chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.

The Doctor of Chiropractic program requires over 4,400 hours of classroom instruction and clinical experience over an accelerated 5 year program fit into a year round 3 1/2 years.

Dr. Hunter spent over 400 hours outside of his coursework to further understand technique, philosophy and how to build a business around his passion for helping people.

Dr. Hunter graduated with his class, 173, on October 20th 2017. He earned his Doctor of Chiropractic and Bachelors of Science.

April 4th Dr. Hunter gained licensure in the great state of Colorado.

A Brief History

"The First Chiropractic Adjustment"

September, 18th 1895

Along the border of Iowa's cornfields and Illinois industrial landscape is a little city known as Davenport, Iowa. Back in September 1895, a magnetic healer by the name of Dr. D.D. Palmer was working with the buildings janitor, Harvey Lillard, who had a previous injury which caused him to lose his hearing. Dr. D.D. Palmer identified that there was a bone misaligned in Harvey's neck. He did the sensible thing to do and simply adjusted the bone back into the proper position. The next day, Harvey returned to Dr. Palmer's office and his hearing had returned. Little did he know Dr. Palmer had just provided the first chiropractic adjustment.

"From that first adjustment, D.D. Palmer continued to develop chiropractic and in 1897 established the Palmer School of Cure, now known as the Palmer College of Chiropractic, in Davenport, Iowa, where it remains today. Following the first adjustment, many people became interested in Palmer’s new science and healing art. Among his early students were Palmer’s son, Bartlett Joshua (BJ), as well as members of the older healing arts of medicine and osteopathy. The first state law licensing chiropractors was passed in 1913, and by 1931, 39 states had given chiropractors legal recognition.

Today, there are more than 70,000 active chiropractic licenses in the United States. All 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands officially recognize chiropractic as a health care profession. Many other countries also recognize and regulate chiropractic, including Canada, Mexico, Great Britain, Australia, Japan and Switzerland." - ACA History of Chiropractic
