Yes. Students taking eLearning courses are taught and assessed on the same curriculum expectations as students in traditional classrooms. The key difference is that the entire course is delivered in an electronic medium. It must be stated that some courses lend themselves better to a digital environment than others, particularly, courses that are largely reading and writing based.
Students taking eLearning courses write tests and quizzes online using tools of the Learning Management System. Often, teachers will release assessments for a specific amount of time, or at a designated time, so as to create similar conditions in a face-to-face classroom.
Attendance Policies in School Boards: Individual school boards may have their specific attendance policies for e-learning students.
Teachers will explain the attendance procedure when a course begins. Essentially, students will be provided with an opportunity to show that they are actively participating in the course – accessing course content, participating in discussions, and submitting work according to deadlines. The teachers are still required to report attendance to the Office at their home school, but they must follow the Ministry of Education’s Attendance Policy.
“Record enrolment in day school e-learning courses in the day school enrolment register in the same way as enrolment in courses delivered in the classroom. Where a pupil *participates* in an e-learning course at any time during a week (Monday to Friday), the pupil will be marked present in the course for the entire week. Where a pupil does not participate in the course during a week (Monday to Friday), the pupil will be marked absent in the course for the entire week.”
Remember that you will not be physically within the confines of a classroom; therefore, your presence within the e-learning community is less apparent. If you intend to drop a course, you must contact your course teacher and discuss the change with them and your home school guidance counsellor.
Please keep in mind to be successful in an online course students must stay up to date on assignments and be actively involved in the discussions. Students should expect to spend a minimum of 6 hours per week online in an e-learning course.

· Checking and responding to feedback from the teacher
Please keep in mind that to be successful in an online course, students must stay up to date on assignments and be actively involved in discussions. Students should expect to spend a minimum of 5.5 hours per day online in an e-learning course.
❏ eLearning classes are asynchronous
❏ Students are required to work 5.5 hours/day online (NOT IN A ROW!)
❏ Attendance is compulsory. With the compressed nature of Summer School,
❏ Students who do not submit assignments on two consecutive days MAY be removed from the program. Working on the course can (not limited to) the following:
Working through course content
Communicating with the teacher and other classmates
Submitting assignments/Discussions/Quizzes
Checking and responding to feedback from the teacher
All materials to support courses are available through the LMS. There are internet links with many of the lessons. Every attempt is made to keep the links active, however, due to the very nature of the web this may not always be the case. If you find an inactive link please notify your teacher so the issue may be investigated. Your school and community libraries are also available to support your learning.
One of the key aspects of e-Learning is communication with the teacher and other students. This is done mostly through an internal email system within the LMS. The email component of the LMS is secure and confidential. Each individual in the class will have an email address, which you may use to send information or discuss a group work assignment. If you have a question for your teacher please feel free to email your teacher at any time. The teacher will reply to you as soon as it is possible.
*Email may be sent outside the system but no external emails can be received.
