Welcome to the Assumption College Catholic High School!
Mr. Bonanno has been teaching with the WECDSB since 2010. After a number of years as an occasional teacher, he was hired as the Life Skills teacher at Catholic Central in 2019, where he remained until moving to Assumption this year. This is his first year here at Assumption, and he loves being a Purple Raider!
For the last 10 years Mr. Bonanno has spent his summers working as a program supervisor at the Bruce Awad Summer Program for children with Autism, and coaching high school and travel baseball. In his free time he enjoys watching sports, and playing baseball. He is also an avid collector of signed hockey memorabilia.
Ms. Amy Weir, a 1994 graduate of Assumption College Catholic High School, is a third generation Purple Raider following her grandfather, Fredrick Weir (1946) and father, Gary Weir(1967). Ms. Weir began her teaching career over twenty years ago and her dream came true when she returned to ACS teaching full time alongside her father, the first and only time a father/daughter was on staff teaching together until his retirement from ACS in 2009.
Ms. Weir graduated from the University of Windsor with a Bachelor of Arts in Drama, with a minor in Psychology, followed by a Bachelor of Education. Additional qualifications include Drama Specialist, Religion Specialist, Leadership and Primary/Junior Qualifications.
Over the years at ACS, Ms. Weir has taught Drama, Religion, Social Sciences, Special Education, Acting Department Head of Arts, and currently is the Student Success Teacher.
Ms. Weir has facilitated proms, plays,coached various sports(baseball, volleyball), after school literacy program, student success assemblies, student support,Terry Fox Walk, peer mentoring, teacher mentoring,homework club,exam crams, Christmas outreach and “The 12 days of Christmas Elf Tradition”.
Ms. Weir is a mother to three beautiful children; Cayden, Tristen and Kailyn.
Mrs. Gelinas began her teaching career in physical education in Chatham before moving to the WECDSB to teach special education at Assumption.
She then moved to St. Anne's where she enjoyed her experience as a guidance counsellor for the last 8 years.
She is happy to be back at Assumption as the Learning Support Services teacher, a teacher in the life skills program and a proud Raider!
Mrs. Gelinas is a graduate of the University of Windsor where she earned her Bachelor of Human Kinetics and Education degrees.
She was also a member of the Lancer Cross Country and Track and Field teams. Her passion for those sports continues in her 28th year of coaching!
