Mr. Paul Kennedy has been teaching at Assumption for 17 years and has been teaching IB English for 13 years. For the past 10 years Mr. Kennedy has also served as an official examiner of Extended Essays for IB and has recently been appointed as a senior examiner and team leader for Extended Essay marking.
IB English students have the opportunity to attend workshops delivered by published writers, University of Windsor researching workshops, the annual Stratford field trip, and the New York City field trip.
His IB credentials include IB DP category 1, 2, and 3 training. His IB English classes consistently score higher than the world IB average by a large margin.
Ms. Kim Pearce has been teaching for 19 years, 15 of which have been at Assumption. She teaches IB DP and MYP English, and she is an IB DP examiner.
Ms. Pearce coaches girls’ soccer, helps organize the school’s Poetry in Voice Recitation competition, is a judge for the OECTA Writing Contest, has been a Course Reviewer for the Ministry of Education, and has been a scorer for the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test in Toronto.
Ms. Pearce recently became a PADI Scuba Instructor. She has a background in vocal music and enjoys singing in the pit chorus with Windsor Light Music Theatre. In addition to a degree in Literature, Ms. Pearce has a diploma in Advertising with experience working in this field.
In 2016, Ms. Pearce taught in Melbourne, Australia for one year through a teacher-exchange program.
Ms. Varutti has been in education for 16 years, with stints teaching adults at St. Clair College and St. Michael’s. She has been teaching English and Social Science courses at Assumption for the past 7 years, the majority of which are in the English Department.
She recently acquired her Middle Years Program (MYP) category 1 certification and is devoted to helping her Grade 9 and 10 students become more proficient critical thinkers in the area of literature.
Her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and Journalism Print diploma have allowed her to garner valued work experience in freelance writing, technical writing and quality assurance functions from both public and private sectors. She often draws upon these experiences in the classroom.
When she isn’t in the classroom, she is helping to plan a fantastic prom for Assumption seniors.
Ms. DiPaolo has been teaching for the past 13 years and has been a member of the Assumption community since 2020. She began her teaching career overseas, just outside of London, England, with a focus on Literature and Language in a high school setting.
She is a University of Windsor graduate and has an Honours Degree in Kinesiology with a minor in English Literature. She also holds additional qualifications in MYP and IB category 1, as well as ESL. Ms. DiPaolo is the current Literacy Support Teacher (LST), helping to prepare students to complete their Ontario Literacy test requirement.
Ms. DiPaolo is an enthusiastic educator both within the classroom environment and through participation in extracurricular activities. She is the teacher moderator for the ACS Book Club and enjoys cheering on the ACS community through all of their endeavors.
Mrs. Soulliere has a diploma from St. Clair College in Hotel Management and has worked in the hospitality industry for over 20 years. Realizing her true passion was in education, she pursued her undergraduate degree in English Literature & Visual Arts at the University of Windsor, and obtained her Bachelor of Education Degree in 2011. After university, Mrs. Soulliere worked at a not-for profit organization teaching pre-apprenticeship culinary, and literacy & basic skills to underprivileged youth and adults.
In 2017, Mrs. Soulliere moved into another role where she taught adults with special needs and eventually began teaching ESL to Newcomer Canadian Adults. In 2020, Mrs. Soulliere began her journey at the WECDSB, and that journey brought her to Assumption College Catholic High School where she is currently teaching English.
Outside of school, she is a mom, an avid reader, a self-proclaimed foodie, and movie lover. She loves getting involved in fundraisers that support her students and the residents of Windsor-Essex.
Ms. DeBroe is an English and History teacher at Assumption High School, where she is also an assistant coach to both Senior Girls & Boys Basketball teams. In spring 2023 she had her first opportunity to teach at Assumption, and she's incredibly happy to be back full time.
Her qualifications include an undergraduate degree in English Language and Literature, with a minor in History and Women & Gender Studies. After graduating from the University of Windsor's Faculty of Education in spring of 2020, she moved to England and started her teaching career. In her time overseas, she taught English at two different schools.
Ms. DeBroe is passionate about English; she loves to read and write creatively, and hopes to encourage her students to do the same.
Ms. Watson is a Drama and English teacher.
She is a graduate of the University of Windsor's BFA Acting program, studying with some of the best directors and theatre practitioners in Canada.
After graduating she went on to the University of Windsor's Bachelor of Education program.
She has been performing in Musical Theatre for over 15 years and teaching at a private studio in Niagara Falls for 10 years.
This is Ms Watson's first year teaching at Assumption College, teaching Drama, English, and Geography this semester, as well as coaching the Swim Team and leading the school choir.
Ms Watson has now lived in Windsor-Essex for 7 years, having moved here in 2016. She has been involved with theatre companies such as Kordazone theatre (Windsor) and Linus Hand Productions (Niagara Falls) and is excited to share her knowledge and experience with her students.
Mrs. Maskoni is a new addition to Assumption, joining the English, History, and Social Science department this year. This marks her third year as part of the WECDSB.
She's enthusiastic about being a part of the Assumption family and is taking on the role of moderating the junior boys basketball team.
Mrs. Maskoni holds a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Windsor, and has obtained additional qualifications in Teaching English Language Learners, Religion, Primary Division, and classroom management. She is also proficient in Arabic.
Beyond her professional life, Mrs. Maskoni enjoys quality time with her husband, family, and friends. Her interests include travel, cooking, reading, and music.
Mrs. Vanessa Clarke is in her second year at Assumption and teaches in the Math, ESL and Social ScienceM Departments. Graduating from the University of Windsor with Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Psychology and a minor in Science, Technology and Society, Mrs. Clarke was originally trained in Primary/Junior Division education at the University of Windsor but has additional qualifications in Math, Family Studies, Special Education and Teaching English Language Learners.
Mrs. Clarke has been teaching since 2007 in a variety of settings including Adult Education, a semester at St. Anne’s High School and in secondary schools in the UK from 2009-2021. In the UK, she taught Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 Mathematics, Preparation for Working Life, and Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education. Having been a GCSE Mathematics Examiner and Team Leader for the past nine exam series and working for a global examination board, Mrs. Clarke has gained deeper understanding of the development of standardized exam questions, marking schemes and strategies for successfully writing exams.
Additionally, Mrs. Clarke is the moderator of the After School Weight Room Club and Eucharistic Minister at ACS for school masses. When she is not teaching at ACS she is enjoying spending time with her husband, three kids and family.
